First I will thank all for the nice comments and words of my last post.

Today’s post is a picture of one of my fav’s, the Eurasian Nuthach or just Nuthutch, “ nötväcka” in Swedish. It’s the only bird that can climb down on a tree. It’s a quite common bird and not shy,
I took this in the morning from our hide and I manage to take it in the classic pose.
I had to use ISO 800 because of the bad light and I needed atlast 1/250 sec of this mobile bird, they are funny to watch, when they hiding all seeds it can get, they are always moving around.

The Eurasian Nuthatch, Sitta europaea, is a small passerine found throughout temperate Europe and Asia, although not in Ireland. It belongs to the nuthatch family Sittidae.
This bird is the most common and most widespread nuthatch, and is often referred to just as the Nuthatch.
It is a resident bird of deciduous woods and parkland, with some old trees for nesting. It feeds on insects, seeds and nuts. Its old name “nut-hack” derives from its habit of wedging a nut in a crevice in a tree, and then hacking at it with its strong bill.
It has the ability, like other nuthatches, to climb down trees, unlike species such as woodpeckers which can only go upwards. It will come to bird feeding tables, and is then very aggressive, driving other species away.
The Eurasian Nuthatch is 14cm long and has the typical nuthatch big head, short tail and powerful bill and feet. It is blue-grey above, with a black eyestripe. Asian and north European birds (S. e. asiatica and S. e. europaea respectively) are white below except for chestnut in the vent area. The western European S. e. caesia has generally reddish underparts. Young birds are "washed out" versions of the adults.
Nests are in holes or crevices, lined with bark or grass. The size of the hole’s entrance may be reduced by the building of a neat mud wall. Five to eight eggs are laid, white speckled with red.
This is a noisy bird, often located by its repeated tui-tui-tui call.

Hi Gert,
perfect presentation of typical behaviour, a perfectly chosen point of view to get an absolutely ideal contrasting smooth background and a dynamic composition that is well demonstrating the nuthatch's habit of quick climbing up and down the tree. Thank you!
With best regards,
Peter

Hi Gert,
A superb shot on this Nuthatch. The classic pose as they head down the trunk of the tree head first. You nailed the exposure perfectly here. The colors and detail in the plumage look amazing. Great work my friend.

Hi Gert.
Some time I have asked you to borrow me a starling, you then have posted an excellent picture of this bird. Now I have some own pictured of this species. That is why I ask to borrow me this charming birdy too. May be next year I will meet it and take similar photos.

Great picture with brilliant reproduction of all beauty of the bird, trunk and BG. Bravo.

Hi Gert

Yes, a classic pose indeed. I was lucky to see and take some shots of only one - on the US - and it had this pose, too :)
But even if it's not a "special" pose, your photo still excells in sharpness and color. These two elements really make the subject stand out even from the thumbnail.
That aside, the spot-on DOF put the little bird is full focus while gives you a great bokeh for the BG. Also, the exposure is very well managed and due to that you benefit from an excellent contrast throughout the entire frame.
All-in-all: wonderful work!

Bravo and TFS

Gert my old Friend
Good to see you are still nailing the beautiful birdies as well as ever. Life is fine for me too, been shooting a lot, lots of nice birds and cats. Have now 275 bird species on Oiseaux.net! You should join - they are doing great work on a virtual bird guide.
Take care
Callie
