I found this one a little difficult to place on this site. I think that Lakes would be a good category to place on here. Anyway. This ice block seems small on the picture but it was about 1mtr wide and about 1mtr in height. it was about 40cm thick. I cant tell you how much it weight but getting out of the water was a challenge. The original piece was even bigger. So parts of the lake at the time, mostly in shaded areas had quite a bit of ice. The top layer looking like you could stand on it but in this picture against the sun light ( ice blocking the sun) it shows you what it would like from underneath. You can see many, many air pockets have been created making the ice very weak to stand on. This is when you are at risk of falling through.

This picture was taken with a small compact digtal camera.

Hello Demetrios
a different subject, nevertheless very interesting.THe sun gives it a good lighting.Perhaps some postprocessing with that sky in the BG would give it an improved look.

wonder how it would have looked if the meter was taken on the sky above the ice and then stopped down one or two stops. great backlighting. vince
