Today’s post is common crane. When they arrived in the spring it’s a great event.
Our famous resting place Hornborgarsjön is invaded of bird-watcher from all the word. The locals have build small hides as they rent out for a big cost.
The cranes come in thousand (up to 12000 cranes/day) to rest and feed before the long trip to the north of our country. When they return in the autumn they rest quite close where I live.
So I use to drive out in the early morning and waiting by the fields, the car is a great hide and they will come very close. And they even dance in autumn just to keep the bonds.
This picture is taken a gray morning with fog and haze, a normal September morning.
And it was a couple of hundreds at the field at the same time.
In the Fields
This one was a soloist and dance for the female.
Pair dance
I hope you like it.

Hej Ellis,
A shot you must be proud of - I've never seen a crane doing the CanCan! Joking apart, it's a really excellent shot with an incredible display of feathers. GRATTIS!
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hi Gert,
Hey hey, this one might be with us now, heading to Southern Europe.
Over 10000 have been reported near Arcachon (south west of the country) by a friend photographer yesterday. You've caught a lively movement of this impressive bird here. September light and atmosphere are well conveyed too with this harvested field.
Regards
Jean-Michel

Hej Gert,
Excellent capture of our Trana! This is sharp and with an excellent BG.
I have tried to use our car to this end but have not succeeded in coming close enough yet.
En vacker dag!

This is a very nice photo of an isolated crane. You normally see those crowded photos with lots of cranes everywere, so this is a good change.

Gert, you have a skill for getting interesting unsusual pictures that is unique and this one is no exception....

I think the pose is impressing and your crop makes it even more facinating.

Is it from Hornborgasjön in september... most people go there in the spring.

Hello Gert,
These kind of photos are like lifetime photos. You dont get to see dancing birds often.great shot. i have posted a workshop for this one. I dont know how i am eligible to post a workshop for a person of ur stature, still its my small effort. hope you will like it.

What a graceful solo performer, Gert!
One also gets to know its size from head to toe in a picture like this.
Impressive capture with your tele macro.
TFS and bye.

Hi Gert

What a beautiful moment you have witnessed here. An opportunity well seen and brilliantly captured. By isolating this one bird, in the shot, you have accomplished a remarkable result considering the enormous quantity (wow 12,000 per day) of these birds that flocked together.

The composition is fine, but (IMHO) maybe you could have cropped ±2cm from the top and bottom just to remove the ‘fence’ (or so it looks) at the top and a bit of the OOF grass at the bottom. Anyway, I like how you gave this bird ample space, on the sides, to do his dancing routine. The colours are rich, the details are splendid, and the exposure is spot-on. However, I do believe I can actually spot that this was not taken with your 20D though, but your reasons are quite clear and understandable. Given time the new camera should also still become an extension of your hand.

Keep well my friend.
Regards
Loot

great pic, its nice to see it, these cranes are now wintering in Israel. TFS Ori

Ricardo

Good shot Gert, mainly for the position of the captured bird, so attractive.
I like the point of view and the framing that you chose for their publication with appropriate out of focus of the front and bottom of the scene.
Spectacular two Workshops that you present, personally I like more the couple's image dancing that the original same one, but it is only my opinion.
Tacka dig den min vännen och hälsningar.
Ricardo :-)

Hi Gert

Stunning shot with a wonderful POV and composition and the pose you have captured is simply superb and so elegant, the details are nice and sharp with lovely natural colours. Interesting notes too, I never realized that Cranes migrated in such large numbers, it must be quite a sight.

Hi Gert,
DoF is perfect, apperture was perfectly set, shallow but covering all parts of the bird. Great timing in capturing this action. Nicely composed picture.
Great shot.

Hello Gert.
Very cool shot and title for this one.
Good color, exposure and detail for the distance you were at..
The pose makes the shot great. I enjoyed the links to the rest of the dance routines ;-}}
Have a good week mf.

Hi Gert,
An excellent shot on this Crane. You caught a great pose. All the attention is focused on the crane as he stand alone in the field. The exposure lloks good. Nice color saturation across the entire tonal range. Nice sharp detail in this bird. Well done my friend.

Hi Gert,
You are so lucky to have these cranes stop by near you.
Magnificent birds.
We have a similar phenomenon about an hour and a half away from us, but we get the sandhill cranes. I have yet to get close enough to get a decent picture.
Your capture is wonderful, with a fantastic pose and great details!

Hi Gert

What a magnificent pose you managed to capture from this superb crane! He appears to say "i am the master of this field!" ;)
I raelly like the POV and the composition, with just enough room left clear in the frame in the direction he is looking.
Also the colos are geat, the details very nice and sharp and the light very well managed.

Bravo and TFS

Hi Gert.
You have shared with us the remarkable photos very generously. You have essentially expanded opportunities of such tool as workshop.

Amazing in its beauty scene. Great composition and perfect example to selection DOF and its results. I like the gradation of light-grey – dark-grey tones, excellent detailed bird and blurred FG and BG. Despite of cloudy morning the colours are well saturated and clear. Thank for sharing and nice note. My best wishes.
Alexei.

Hi Gert,
Quite an event:-).
In above pic I do like the compo very much as well as the bird's pose.

Hello my friend. I trust you are well. I can just wish to see 12000 cranes in one go. Our cranes are very rare some endangered and some threatened. I have seen this crane in a Zoo once and find it all but common. :) It is a lovely bird and you have captured it's pose very nicely. The bird must have been far from you as I see some sharpening halo's. Still a very good photo. The grasses looks a lot like the area I stay. Very well done.

These birds are amazing. I love to watch them. I managed to get a few interesting shots of sandhills at Yellowstone Park this fall. It was about 5 o'clock in the morning, and pretty dark. I had no clue what I was doing. The poses are great, the photo quality is VERY noisy. I've been working on then to see if I can save anything.

This is a great capture. I see some noise, (not as bad as mine!) The OOF foreground is a little distracting. I did a quick workshop. Seeing as how I have been playing with my own cranes the past few days, thought I'd play with one more. : )
