Just a quickie today... At work so not too much time...

First of all - A Belated Happy New Year to you all, since this is my first posting this year!

Taken on the 27th December, this is one of my first pictures using one of my 2 new lenses... So still a lot of things to learn... but I am reasonably pleased with it...

This was taken across the track from the Holiday home we were using on Gräsö island in Sweden over the Christmas and New Year period.

The sea water in the foreground is frozen, but the Baltic is a low salt sea so freezes more readily than normal seas and oceans do.

This was also the first time is used my new filter system as well which I have yet to add to my equipment. I finally went down the Lee Filter route and this picture was taken using the 0.6nd Hard HD graduated filter..

So the question is - what do you think - honestly and what can I do to improve with both the lens and the filters...

I think the sharpness needs assistance, but it was too dark for the camera to focus on where I wanted it and my eye sight is not very good... It was taken at around 3:30pm local time, with total darkness before 4pm...
And I think the single tree is too central, but the landscape did not allow for anything else...

Convereted from RAW, this is more or less as it came out of the camera.... No colour conversion or coloured filters (just the ND grad filter to underexpose the sky to get the foreground lighter) - this was the real colour that afternoon.

Hi Emma,
Great to see a photo from your vacation in Sweden. I was really looking forward to it. I am not that troubled with the position of that one tree, since the other two trees are higher and when you draw a line from those to the single tree and beyong, you get a nice diagonal line, roughly pointing toward the brightest spot in the photo. I don undestand your concern of the sharpness. I too have a problem with it when it comes to manual focus and darkness. I think it also has to do with the lousy viewfinder and me wearing glasses.
The mood of the colors and the texture in the clouds is just wonderful. The great clarity of the bottom half of the photo is perfect. The filter did its job perfectly. I do need to look at this photo again at home, since I am seeing some noise in the bottom left corner, but my monitor at work isn't good as seeing dark areas.

TFS and I hope to see some more shots from Sweden soon.

I couldn't decide which of the lovely shots to post on but I think this one slightly has the edge. Wonderful composition, I love all the details in the FG, great light, perfect exposure

Beautiful sky here, exactly the way I like. Maybe the shot is a bit overexpose in some part, but all the same a nice postcard.
