Today’s post is a beautiful butterfly, a Small Tortoiseshell, Nässefjäril, Aglais urticae.
It’s normally a common butterfly in Sweden, but up here where I live I have not seen one yet.
I found this on my vacation in Värmland. It’s pity to have to travel 310km for a butterfly;-))
But I have captured others too, post later.

/The Small Tortoiseshell is one of our most common butterflies with an easily recognisable pattern of orange, yellow and black markings on the upper surface of the wings. A resident species it can be found across the whole of the British Isles including the more remote Scottish Islands

What a perfect specimen, Gert.
It sure seems to be showing off its exquisite beauty.
Gorgeous details and colors. It looks like a jewel, with those bright blue spots against the rich orange and black.

HI Gert, I'm sorry you had to travel all that way to get a small tortoiseshell, they are pretty common here. It's a nice shot, lovely focus work and colours, very well done.

(I've stopped using points now so I'm sorry that I can't leave any)

Hello Gert,
I saw this years many butterflies. I would say this year was better for butterflies than 2005. For hoverflies it is a bad year. - Your butterfly shot from the Small Tortoiseshell is perfect! Excellent framing, POV and sharpness. Natural colours and very nice bg too. As usual a great note too. This is an excellent composition my friend.
Thank you for posting. Have a nice day.

Coridales saludos... Ricardo

A traditional, but always effective composition with appropriate coloring and clarity.
The POV is correct to appreciate the details of the insect in their entirety.
The focus is good, although elected DOF has left a little soft on the superior extremity of the wing... one occasion that I find a little defect... jejeje.
Best regards... Ricardo

Hi Gert,
such a beauty - and with a perfect 3D-Effect.
I like the colours and the sharpness.
I haven't seen many butterflies this year, we always have wind, not possible to make good shots. So thanks for yours, bye
