I am back after short pause :)
This is a male gold crest in unusual pose with crest up as a Native American Indian warrior :)
The story behind this shot is really funny and I am going to tell you :)
As we already know this is the smallest bird in Europe with whole 5g in weight and 8.5 cm in size most time found deep in the forest. So... the question is: how to found this little guy middle in the dark forest? This question I have asked my self many time. Last year when I visited forest in Samdemar area I saw little Gold crest with big surprised on my face :) but no good shot. Reason was simple, to dark area and to fast object.
Two days ago when I visited same area and forest I tried to found some gold crest. After 45 min in forest I found many birds but not any little one. Last time when I visited Gert "ellis49" and Micke "Tamrock" we used mp3 player and played songs of the birds. Sometimes we had a luck to see those birds that we played... I have many bird songs in my mobile phone and I get idea to play gold crest and see if something happened. After 15 sec I saw something moving up in the trees. Yes it was little one and I was really pleased with that... He was singing almost identically as the song from mobile which I found really funny. It was really dark afternoon in the forest so I used manual settings with ISO-1000 and my 1.4 extender to get (560 mm, F/8) closer. After 15min running after this little one I get few shots with OK quality but far from perfect. Sometimes It was two gold crest hunting itchother and even more problem to photograph... I tried to make this long story shot and if you have problem to understand please don't be angry :)

The Goldcrest Regulus regulus is a very small passerine bird in the kinglet family, resembling the Firecrest but with a plainer face. It breeds in most of temperate Europe and Asia but is partly migratory and northern birds winter south of the breeding range. It prefers coniferous woodlands, although it has a wider range in winter, when it is often found with tit flocks. It builds an open nest and lays 4-12 eggs.

The Goldcrest is the smallest European bird, measuring from 8.5 to 9.5cm. It is dull greenish above, with buffy white underparts, two white wingbars, a plain face with a conspicuous black eye. The crown has black sides and a narrow black front, and a bright central crest, orange in the male and yellow in the female, which is displayed during breeding. It is a restless species, constantly on the move as it searches for insects...

Hello Ralf,
Nice to see a shot from you on TN!
This is a fine capture of the Goldcrest really showing his crest in a way that I haven't seen before in a fine frontal view. These guys are not easy and you did a fine job capturing him so sharply.

Ralf,

This is a wonderful photograph! Technically, its very well executed but what really did it for me was the pose that you caught here. It is a great and humorous pose. The angle and POV is just right. Very nicely done Ralf!
