[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the only venomous snake we have in Sweden but its not deadly, if
you not are allergic. It’s a quite harmless snake; you have to step on it before it maybe strikes. They are shy and will always run away. If it strikes it’s not sure it will inject any venom because very often if will be a “dry bite”.
They are quite common, more common than people think because the run away
long before people see them. They are protected by the law as the other two species of snakes we have up here, the grass snake and the rare smooth snake.
If you find an adder on your ground you have to remove it not kills it, the best to avoid having them in your garden is to have the grass short.

I found these 3 adders yesterday when I was chasing some butterflies, I almost step on them and it was quite cold so they were very lazy and move very slowly away.
I was back this morning to see if I could find them and I did.
The black body is a big female I’m familiar with, she hold me company last year when I was shooting butterflies, the other what I think are males, the darker of them was really big, much bigger than the female. The black colored adder is very common up here and on the East Coast. I almost never seen a grey with black zigzag line.

Hi Gert,
I think they are in a mating mood. Very nice details and excellent composition. And it is not a easy capture. Thanks a lot for your effort for bringing this beautiful phenomenon here in TN to us.

HI Gert,
I found an adders nest in England when I was a kid ... and got a real fright.
This is a good close up look at these beautiful snakes.
A very interesting post.

Hello Gert,

I'm no snake fan, but this picture is very nice, splendid focus on the head of the snake, colours and composition are very lovely, very well done.

Best regards,
John.

Good pov and good compo.

Iulian

Hi Gert,
What a great capture.
A few times I've seen one adder while I was out to take some shots of other animals, but they always did run before I had the change to make shots of them, but never seen a scene like this with a few rolled up together.
Are they doing this because of the cold or are they preparing to mate?
Excellent lighting and most wonderfu natural surrounding and details at the skin.
bonjour harry
il est evident pour moi que c'est une belle photo car ce n'est pas le genre de sujet que je risquerais de voir lors d'une ballade,le seul ours present en france est chassé par les eleveurs de brebis!!!
enfin bravo et merci.

Hello Gert,
I always like to read your note. It is personal and well told.
The image...
Well done. Great content. Didn't know adders were so common in Sweden. Not really a snake country in my mind.
