Todays post is taken from my and Mickes(Tamrock) new hide.
We are building a new hide, not ready yet, in our bird area Villa Rettig.
We also have sat up a feeding station to give the bird a helping hand to get trough
the winter. It’s a bit early but it’s good for the birds to know where to find food when the natural foods are harder to find.
This is Long-Tailed Tit and I have post some of the them earlier but that was winter shots.
Some info about the Long-Tailed Tit.
/
The Long-tailed Tit, Aegithalos caudatus, is a very small passerine bird. It breeds in most of Europe and Asia. It is a non-migratory species.
It is closely related to the true tits, and in winter it is often found with tit flocks.
This is a very small bird at only 13–15 cm in length including its very long tail, which itself makes up 7–9 cm of the total. The Long-tailed Tit is black and brown above and whitish below, with reddish flanks. It has a white crown. North European birds (A. c. caudatus) have completely white heads and flanks.
This is a restless species, constantly on the move as it searches for insects and other small food items. It is usually found in small flocks, and has been described as an avian sheep.
Long-tailed Tits are birds of deciduous woodlands with undergrowth. They nest in a tree or shrub. Six to twelve eggs are laid in a woven closed nest. The nest is held together with spider webs, and camouflaged with lichen. Adult birds will find a relative's nest and help feeding their "nephews and nieces", if their own nest is predated.
The call is loud trisyllabic srih-srih-srih.

Hello Gert!
This is my favourite species of tits! And one of the most rare observed by me. Here it was presented in a very nice way, very good exposed, with good DOF, details, colours and sharpness. Bravo also for the note, as always I found here a lot of interesting details.
TFS and have a nice afternoon!
Radomir

Gert
I wish I could describe the feeling coming over me, when I opened this thumbnail. I just cannot express the thoughts going through my mind. This is absolutely striking. It looks as if this bird’s feathers have been combed for the occasion. It is as if this dainty and cute bird has just had a visit to the beauty salon. This is indescribable beautiful. This is definitely a winner and most definitely a HUGE favourite. Need I say more? In Afrikaans there is a saying : “Hulle sal hulle ou skoene agterna gooi om so ‘n foto te kan neem” and I think it is most certainly applicable here. ( I think if you do not understand that saying you can ask my friend Loot to translate it for you,as I am sure he will be the best person for the job. I for one is so chuffed with this image, I cannot imagine how you must feel about it. Thanks for sharing, it is much more than appreciated.
Warmest regards
Aaltjie

Hej Gert
Nice shot of this Long-tailed Tit, well saturated and presented.

Ralf

Hi Gert

Another splendid long-tailed tit shot from you, my friend, and i also must say that it's great to see you shoot with the Canon again! Are your arms and hands feeling better? I certainly hope so :)

Anyway, the photo is superb, with impeccable details in the bird. I really like the strong contrasting colors in the plummage as well as the great isolation from the BG.
Very nice almost diagonal composition and charming pose of the tit, too.

Take care and TFS

Hello Gert,
a very nice picture of this white headed long tailed tit. This sub species (the white headed) is very rare in the netherlands. Although it is claimed many times, there is also a large variation in plumage of native birds. Would be interesting to see the migration patterns of these birds.
The picture itself is well exposed which is not easy with a white bird as this one. Well performed!
Greets, Jacob

Hi Gert,
Damage for the noise in the background. The exposure and framing are well done.
