Hi Gert.
What a beauty you managed to catch. I like wonderful color pattern of the bird, its so cute pose and head turn. BG is simple but very suitable for this subject and main object (bird and tree branch are reproduced precisely. So difficult for correct exposure object. You have solved this task very good. Framing and composition are blameless as usual. Excellent job and best regards.

Hej Gert,
You have just the right POV to make this Skata show its iridescent colours at their best. The technical qualities of this image are very good and the composition on the branch with the snow is superb.
This is the best European Magpie image I have seen on TN, if not ever!

This is really outstanding! The magpies are very beautiful birds but I've seldom seen one looking so fresh and with such a bright metallic sheen on the plumage. It must be a young fellow! Your capture is just perfect in every respect and so is the composition.

This is a fine pose of a lovely bird!
The fine light really makes the colours shine...

I have some magpies living around my house, and I use to feed them as I’m preparing my morning coffee. Now it has become a habit, and they sit around waiting in the trees when I come…

I have been trying out different kind of food leftovers, and here is their list of priority:

1 - Cheese, preferably Gouda
2 - Danish salami
3 - Liver pâté
4 - Dry bread
…
9 - Potatoes, raw, are left behind

A good portrait of this versatile bird!

Gosh Gert they are a lovely bird. You have captured the beauty in colour and fine detail. I hasten to add we have these here in quite the number, however they are or have been rather elusive for me...or from me...but I continue in my quest...and you can continue to show me how it is done until then...

Outside the perfect clear colours and the details, the whole photo is so beautiful! One of the best of the Pica pica (as I always say, I like that name) I've ever seen. The pose, surroundings with the snow, the BG, POV and composition are all marvelous.

This looks like a perfect photograph to me. The color is beautiful. The exposure is perfect. The angle of the branch and the pose of the subject makes a very strong composition. The background is beautiful.

Hallo Gert
You say in your notes that this "Colourful Magpie (Skata)"is a common bird in your area, but if I would not mind to see, or just have a peek at one of these "common birds “in the flesh. Like always a stunner from your side. I really like the variety of colours of its plumage and the long tail piece with the interesting tips is a winner and attention-grabbing. I like the way the bird is sitting with its back to you but its face is in your direction. This one definitely deserves a smiley’s, but you prefer not to have it, which is a huge pity. Details are razor sharp with nothing out of place. A perfect picture pretty photo. The snow on the branch is like always the cherry on the cake. Thanks for sharing. It was lovely to look at.

Hi Gert,

As a common bird, many people thinks that Pica pica is an ordinary black/white bird. You have right, this clever and sly bird is wonderful colored, as you show us in this great photo.

Beautiful colors Gert..That tail is fantastic!
An excellent comp & POV, this beauty stands out well in the frame..Very good DOF and sharp details. You managed the exposure nicely too, that dark/white plummage combo is a real pain in the arse :)

I see that winter brought you plenty of beautiful subjects as well...you might be one of the very few people here in Europe that produces great quality new photos all your round :) Bravo!
This really is a very beautiful and colorful bird and i'm sure it's alwas a pleasure to photograph it.
You did a great job here and managed to reproduce it with super sharp details and also to isolate it superbly from the BG.
Excellent exposure control, as usual, wonderful composition and presentation.

The name is misleading at they are far from pied. You have captured the beautiful bles and greens magnificantly. A much undestimated bird, so thanks for bringing it to TM.
