[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Today’s post is a picture of one of common birds here on TN the Blue tit. It’s very common up here so we hesitate to shoot it when it visits us by the hide.
But I like it a lot and think it is beautiful in the colors of the Swedish Flag and this one posed very nice.
I hope you like this common fellow.

I think you know most of the Blue Tit but here is some info.

The Blue Tit, Cyanistes caeruleus (often still Parus caeruleus), is a 10.5 to 12 cm long passerine bird in the tit family Paridae. It is a widespread and common resident breeder throughout temperate and subarctic Europe and western Asia in deciduous or mixed woodlands. It is a resident bird, i.e., most birds do not migrate
The azure blue crown and dark blue line passing through the eye and encircling the white cheeks to the chin give the Blue Tit a very distinctive appearance. The forehead and a bar on the wing are white. The nape, wings and tail are blue; the back is yellowish green; the under parts mostly sulphur-yellow with a dark line down the abdomen. The bill is black, the legs bluish grey, and the irides dark brown. Young Blue Tits are noticeably more yellow. This is a common and popular European garden bird, due to its perky acrobatic performances when feeding on nuts or suet. It swings beneath the holder, calling tee, tee, tee or a scolding churr.
The song period lasts almost all the year round, but is most often heard during February to June.

No points for this, I have given them up like some others. I have turn of the points, so don’t waste your green ones.

I shot in raw as most of you know, and when I converting I set it to 16 bits and set the colour-space to Pro-photo space, all to have as much as possible to work with in photoshop,
The last pp-work after sharpen is to set it back to 8 bits and convert to sRGB for the web.
Canon 400mm L USM, Tripod, hide,
ISO 400, Raw-format, tv-mode, spot metering.
Levels, Contrast, Crop, re-sized to 800 pixels, Smart Sharpen ,PP in PS CS3

What a delightful image!
It's so enjoyable the colorful plumage got with that fine details.
I like the pose, alighted on the tip of the branch, as well as the good composition made along the diagonal.

Wonderful bright colors on the bird Gert.
Really looks like a living example blue of the blue and yellow Swedish flag.
Especcially the blue on the head of this lovely bird.
Extreme fine feather details wich is great.
I'm not so sure about the bigger branch in the left upper corner, distract a little in my opinoin, but I like the image a lot anyway.

Nice to see the Swedish flag again!! The bright colours really cheers you up on a grey day like today! Wonderful sharp capture of this little beauty in a fine pose. I agree with Harry about the "branch" on the left but at the same time it frames the bird.

Hi Gert.
What a clean and rich colours of the shot. Bird, broken tree branch and BG are coloured amazingly. The details and reproduction of every feather of the tit is ultimate as well as the dry twig. Lighting and exposure are spot on. Simply great work. Bravo.

Your birds are always exceptional. I have never seen a Blue Tit except in pictures - so much for being common. Beautiful pose - beautiful colors - fantastic details of the face, plummage and tail feathers.

Hello Gert,

I agree with you, it is a very beautiful bird and has a great deal of charm. I love to watch its acrobatic antics on the nuts or fat balls.

This is a very sharp and beautifully detailed image. I can clearly see all its markings and interesting features like its beak, feet and sharp eye.

Thats a beautiful shot of this pretty little bird Gert.
I used to enjoy putting food out for these Blue Tits and watching them at my grandmothers house in England when I was a boy.

Hej Gert,
An excellent capture of our blåmes, a fine individual in fresh breeding plumage. I like the POV and composition and the BG is not disturbing, rather it helps to allow the blue tit to stand out well. The technical quality is up to your high standard.
