Wheatear - Oenanthe oenanthe

I captured this female Wheatear in one of our nature reserves by the coast, an area favoured by Wheatears as the terrain is open with lots of boulders and scattered bushes. They're shy birds but easy to see when flitting between the boulders or perching on stones or bushes to keep a look-out. This is a female lacking the black streak through the eye typical for the male.

It is a summer visitor and passage migrant to Sweden where it is widespread except for in the dense forests. It feeds on insects near the ground. The nest is built in hollows in the ground or in crevices under boulders.

This female was captured from a distance of about 14 metres with the camera handheld. It has been cropped and sharpened.

Hi Ulla,
A fine capture of the wheatear. You must have to push the TCs far to get a good look at them and you managed to do it quite well.
The catchlight is attractive and the details on the bird good with a clear BG to support the composition.well done.
TFS & Cheers

Hi Ulla,
Wonderful shot of this Wheateater in a fine pose. Very impressive sharpness and colours on its plumage with perfect lighting. The BG looks neat and a precise DOF isolates the subjects from the BG nicely. Excellent POV and composition. Kudos.
