I took this spider today when I and my friend were going back from a nature reserve where we took a lot of pictures of the orchid; Elder-flower Orchid, dactylorhiza sambucina (post later). This is the first spider of 2005.
I’m very bad to ID spiders but I think this is a kind of wolf spider.

Technique:
Sigma 180 Macro EX HSM, Handheld
ISO 200, Raw-format, One shot Autofocus
Converted, Levels/Curves, Contrast, Crop, resized to 800 pixels, converted to sRGB save as JPG for the WEB. I used Adobe Photoshop CS2 for PP.

Excelent shot, Gert.
Sure got into his face for this one. Excelent work.
Just wondering if it's me, is it just a wee bit oof? Or are the legs playing an illusion.

Mike

Hi Gert, very nice capture and captures the essence of the spider. The familr is most definitely Lycosidae (wolf spiders) and the only spider I know of with dark metatarsi and tibiae but light tarsi are male Trochosa terricola. Males of other species of Trochosa and Alopecosa also have darkened Leg 1 but to my knowledge not this combination. I'll have to do a few more checks to be certain. I don't suppose you have a view including the abdomen?

Great work Gert.

Wow,,,I can't imagine what the second of 2005 looks like..

Great shot. Very sharp where it needs to be and nice and soft where it counts. I like the texture of the ground very much also. Thanks for sharing.

Impressive. I like that. There's not one eye missing :-) the dark tibias give an even more frightening aspect. You wanted us to have nightmares about spiders... Bingo! Very well realized Gert!

Hello Gert
Fantastic Macro
So close close close.
Human is a good size, when I see this kind of monsters. Ouf in real they are lot more small.

Very close Gert,
Excellent sharp and clear detail, good colours and nice low POV.
Have a great weekend Gert, Thanks for posting

Impressive macro with fantasic detail. Well done.

Hello Gert, You have a great POV and the shot has great impact..You already know I don't even try to shoot my insects hand-held anymore unless there is no other option..Athough not technically perfect, still well worth posting. TFS.

Very great macro Gert, details
In a friendly way Christophe

Lovely!! This pic is nothing for arachnophobiacs.... My daughter used to be, when she was little. But it is much better now, since she has seen really big spiders in the jungle..

My Friend
A handsome beast, lovely eyes, I like the fading dof here, makes him look more sinester. Wolf spider works well with me. He looks like he could have a wolf for breakfast! TFS.
