Todays post is Greenfinch. I was following this finch in more than 10 min seeing him jumping a round and waiting for good opportunity to take some shot. In the end I was really tired running a round with my big lens after this green one and decided to take a pause by sitting on the ground. Two min later the green one come back and landed few meter from me. He was hungry and start to eat. He decided to turn in my direction allowing me to take few shots with cool expression :)

Captured @ 800mm, camera on manual settings.

The European Greenfinch, or just Greenfinch, Carduelis chloris, is a small passerine bird in the finch family Fringillidae. The genus Carduelis might be split up and in this case, the greenfinches would be separated in their old genus Chloris again.

This bird is widespread throughout Europe, north Africa and south west Asia. It is mainly resident, but some northernmost populations migrate further south. The Greenfinch has also been introduced into New Zealand.

Woodland edges, farmland hedges and gardens with relatively thick vegetation are favoured for breeding. It nests in trees or bushes, laying 3-8 eggs.

This species can form large flocks outside the breeding season, sometimes mixing with other finches and buntings. They feed largely on seeds, but also feed their young insects.

The Greenfinch is 14-16 cm in length and is similar in size and shape to a Chaffinch, but is mainly green, with yellow in the wings and tail. The female and young birds are duller and have brown tones on the back. The bill is thick and conical. The song contains wheezes and twitters, and the male has a "butterfly" display flight.

Hello Ralf
Magnificent capture of this charming bird. This photo is stunning, and I like the sharpness and details you got on the plumage. The tailpiece of the feathers is really impressive. I like the way you captured the pose showing its profile and the back of the plumage. The combination of black, brown and yellow is a great match. The turmeric coloured feathers around the eye and beak is great, resulting in a perfect photo for a beautiful captured bird. Splendidly framed and presented in a delightful manner. Thanks for sharing.
My best regards.
Anna

Splendido momento di cattura di questo verdone, eccellenti POV e composizione con i fiori di tarassaco e la posa "interrogativa" dell'uccello con le infiorescenze nel becco, ottima definizione dei dettagli, magnifici colori. Grazie e complimenti. Ciao Maurizio

Hi Ralf,

What a spectacular scene. Not only the beautiful Greenfinch (maybe someday I'll see a live one) but the pretty dandelions, buttercups, fresh green grass and the superb diagonal composition. Beautiful colors, sharp details, and as they say, "Pretty as a picture."

Hej Ralf,
This is a fine capture, not just of this male greenfinch, but of its feeding behaviour in eating dandelion seeds. Great low POV, pose, and composition among the grasses.

Beautiful, Ralf.
He's quite busy in these grasses. I like the setting very much.
Running around with that weight isn't easy. He was cooperative after all.
Well done
