First I will thank all for the nice comments and words of my last post.

Today’s post is for our friend Asbed Iskedjian (CeltickRanger).
He have a great passion to shot in-flight shots of very different species and he is doing very fine with his P/S camera. He has found his own technique who works well for him.
I have shooting in-flight shots in years with DSLR cameras and I don’t find it difficult but I also have tried to shot with small compact digi and that’s impossible, hats off for you Asbed.

This is a Golden Eye taken this morning with quite bad light and it also raining.
I took this with my big lens attached to the tripod since the camera is to heavy for my wrist to handhold. I bought a real good video head to replace the monoball and it works well with low flying birds, I don’t know if it will works with ducks, I have to try later.

I like this picture but it’s taken from behind, I would have prefer a more side view but the Golden Eye is a very fast flying duck so I was a bit after.

Some info about the Golden Eye.

The Common Goldeneye (Bucephala clangula) is a medium sized sea duck of the genus Bucephala, the goldeneyes. Their closest relative is the similar Barrow's goldeneye.
Adult males ranges from 45-52 cm (18-21 inches) and from 888 to 1400 grams (1.9 to 3.1 lbs), while females range from 40-50 cm (16-20 inches) and from 500 to 1182 grams (1.1 to 2.6 lbs). The species is aptly named for its golden-yellow eye. Adult males have a dark head with a greenish gloss and a circular white patch below the eye, a dark back and a white neck and belly. Adult females have a brown head and a mostly grey body. Their legs and feet are orange-yellow.
Their breeding habitat is the taiga. They are found in the lakes and rivers of boreal forests across Canada and the northern United States, Scandinavia and northern Russia . They are migratory and most winter in protected coastal waters or open inland waters at more temperate latitudes. Naturally, they nest in cavities in large trees. They will readily use nestboxes, and this has enabled a healthy breeding population to establish in Scotland where they are increasing and slowly spreading with the help of nestboxes. They are usually quite common in winter around lakes of Britain and some are being encouraged to nest in nestboxes which are put up to try and have them there all year round.

The head and the color looks similar to Northern shoveler that I posted couple of days back. The directional space and the blurred BG adds value to the picture. I can also see the water drop just below the bird!

Hej Gert,
A superb in-flight capture of a male Goldeneye taken today. Your panning and focusing has produced a fine sharp image taken from a great POV.
Yes this makes a fine tribute to Asbed whose skills in taking in-flight shots with his P/S camera are to be admired.
Thanks for sharing this.
Hälsningar,
Ivan

Tyvärr är möjligheterna att fota ut i naturen mycket begränsade än så länge hos oss men vi kommer att få bättre väder snart.

Hi Gert.
Nice dedication. I also am impressed with in-flight shots of Asbed. His in-flight series is unique considering use of compact camera.

I think different POVs have own charm. And this one is not exception. Despite the not sunny weather shot is very impressive. Colours are wonderful and details/sharpness are great too. Colouration of the bird feathers and lake (?) surface is really reflected superbly. Wingspread of the bird is wonderful and timing is spot on. My best regards and TFS.
Alexei.

Hello Gert,

This is a very fine in flight photo. The bird is hsown very sharp despit it's obvious movm, ent. The rather soft tips of the wings suggest well the movment. Colors are very fine and there is a good match between the colors of the plumage and the background.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian

This is a beauty, Gert, I really like the blurred wavy waters as a background and the sharpness and beauty of the duck. The grey light has been used very well, I like it, it shows the colours perfectly. Thank you and what a nice dedication!
