Thanks for the nice comments and words of my previous post.

Today’s picture is a Red-backed shrike (Lanius collurio), Törnskata in Swedish.
This is a male in full colours.
It’s a migration bird 17-18 cm long , weight 22-47 and it use to be here April-September.
They use to be shy and keep distance but this male was looking for food to a youngster and took no notice about me, he was about 10m away.
I hope you like our Törnskata.

From Wikipedia
The Red-backed Shrike (Lanius collurio) is a carnivorous passerine bird and member of the shrike family Laniidae.
This bird breeds in most of Europe and western Asia and winters in tropical Africa. Its range is contracting, and it is now probably extinct in Great Britain as a breeding bird, although it is frequent on migration. It is named as a protected bird in Britain under a Biodiversity Action Plan. It breeds in open cultivated country with hawthorn and dog rose.
This 16-18 cm (approx. 6.3-7.1 inches) long migratory bird eats large insects, small birds, frogs, rodents and lizards. Like other shrikes it hunts from prominent perches, and impales corpses on thorns or barbed wire as a "larder".
The general colour of the male’s upper parts is reddish. It has a grey head and a typical shrike black stripe through the eye. Underparts are tinged pink, and the tail has a black and white pattern similar to that of a wheatear. In the female and young birds the upperparts are brown and vermiculated. Underparts are buff and also vermiculated.
English common names for the red-backed shrike include 'Wariangle' and 'worrier'.

Hi Gert.
I like this species a lot. There are many birds of the species in our countryside place. I often meet them but fro rather far distance. You managed to catch it at simple and at the same time charming scenery. Tree branch pattern is very attractive as well as nicely coloured smooth BG. However, I like most of all superb colour reproduction. Feathers as well as other charming features of the bird are reflected with great skill. The light speck in the bird eye is also sweet. Bravo and all my compliments.
Alexei.

Hej Gert,
The excellent blurred green BG, the bare twigs, the POV, pose, sharpness and colours all contribute to a first class portrait of Törnskatan.
As this is close to perfect I have no negative critique!
Well done and thanks from a dull and grey Scania!
Hälsningar,
Ivan

Hi Gert

Yes my friend, that is exactly how this little masked beauty should look and you are one of only a handful people I know who can truly give credit to this bird's gorgeous good looks.

Technically another lesson in the superb "ellis49" magic. The branch presents a flawless birdie on a nebulous BG decorated in sublime colours.

Well done and take care my friend.
Regards
Loot

Hej Gert,
A fantastic capture of the Red-backed Shrike, a bird I've hardly seen this last summer! :-(
This makes up for it though and I love its pose here against the green background. Excellent Dof and sharpness and really lovely light and colours.
