This is a very common bird in Sweden and it’s stay the winter.
An old saying: If a pair of Magpies builds a nest in your garden, it will bring luck for you.

The Magpie with its immaculate black and white plumage and green and blue gloss, is an unmistakable bird. In flight it can be easily distinguished by its long-tailed profile.
Breeds and winters in open areas with trees or bushes, in woods, parks, gardens and hedgerows.
A very common resident throughout most of Britain, although more local in northern Scotland. Becoming increasingly common in urban areas.
One of the commonest birds of Europe.

7-12 million breeding pairs widespread throughout Europe.

Very good shot, very sharp good details.
Something is disturbing me, but I don't know what, maybe the frame.
Well done.

How did you get this one to sit still long enough to shoot it - a stunning spell right out of Harry Potter? Maybe yours aren't as shy as ours ;-)
This bird has been close to top of my wish list for a long time, it lives locally, but they're so shy they'll detect any movement from blocks away, and all you'll ever see is this distinctive long-tailed silhuette flashing across the sky..
Picture's nice and sharp, good handling of the whites while still retaining definition in the black parts. Pity it wouldn't display any of the blue sheen as well ;-)

Gert, I hope many pairs make nests in your garden. This goes into my favourites.
It is one of the best posts I've seen on TN.
Great job

Very nice magpie, Gert, caught in the situation of a bird looking at a possible danger, as they usually do. The framing comes naturally very well. We have these in Normandy, but very difficult to catch, unless you hide close to a nest and wait patiently. This is a rare contribution. Thanks for sharing it.

Gert, Nice birdshot. Good sharpness and detail in the black. I hope to do some birding soon also.
Greetings, Jan

Gert, An magnificent shot for its great pose, detail, pleasant composition & complimentary BG. Perfect exposure. Most excellent capture!!

Beautiful capture, Gert. Excelent details and composition.
Well done

Mike

Can you send me a pair please! The detail and DOF is excellent in this shot, on both black and white.

Very well done and thanks for posting.

Beautiful bird,fantastic photo.

A very crisp shot, with the bird in an interesting pose. Your exposure was perfect - you kept detail in the dark feathers, and didn't blow the highlights. Excellent PS work, with neat image cleaning up the background noise.

Great and very sharp capture of the "ekster", Gert, nice done !

This magpie is very different to the magpies in NZ and Australia where they seem bigger. They can be pests and are very cheeky, not shy at all. They love to steal shiny objects and will attack people who walk too close to the trees where their nest are.
This bird is quite beautiful with fine features. I love his colours and his long tail. Thank you Gert for showing him. Well done...

Sorry, no time for translation, today...

Beautiful bird, shot beautifully, wonderful clarity and sharpness. I like how his body and tail mimic the lines of the branch. Another wonderful shot!
