This is a small (10mm long) beautiful red beetle, a Poplar Leaf Beetle.
I have post this before but then it was taken with my long 180 mm macro-lens.
This was a very cooperative beetle and it was waiting when I changes lenses and attached the short 60mm lens for some test shots. It’s a better DOF at the same aperture with the same magnification but it’s a problem to stick the front lens in the face of the beetle, I think I use the long lens for this kind of models.
Some about info the Poplar Red Beetle.
This 10-12 mm long beetle is a member of the family Chrysomelidae and is found nearly everywhere on the northern hemisphere. Its wing covers are yellowish brown to red, the head, thorax and legs are black. The adult beetles hibernate in the ground and come back up in April. They are most numerous in June and July. The females lay their eggs on the underside of young poplar, aspen or willow leaves. The adult beetles as well as the larvae feed on the leaves of these trees. When disturbed, the beetles excrete a smelly substance

Hello Gert,
I don't like to re-write my previous critiques of your work but I'm afraid I have too, as this is just perfect :-) Beautiful shot, wonderful rich colours and contrast. excellent detail and perfect composition, I like the white stripe on the plant crossing the frame like that. Excellent work.

If I was to pick nits, the only one I could see is a small dark patch above the Beetle's back that looks like sensor dust. But I'm not in a nit-picking mood today so I won't mention it :-)
Have a great weekend,
Adrian

Hello Gert,
I love the spots of pollen(?) on his beautiful red coat. : )
Absolutely gorgeous colors.
Intriguing white underside of the leaf showing great texture.
Amazed at the shape of his abdomen, so "squarrish" and flat.
Fascinating shot. TFS. : )

Hello Gert, if there is anyone out there educating me on the Swedish insect life out here its gotta be you. Very nice Macro worl and detail on this small bug. Interesting note to end off with, nice work Gert, catch you around. I am off now to get myself a Moose now ( the four legged kind ;-) ) after so much sadness in not seeing one this year now 7.5 months not a sighting until yesterday, unfortunately I was not pleased with my out come, all down to lack of camera use.....

Until the next posting.

Regards

Demetrio

Hi Gert.
Your productivity and quality of your photos make a strong impression. My English does not allow me to keep up with your perfect jobs. The shot of this beetle is outstanding. Texture of leaf and flower is superb. Composition, colours, lighting and contrast are above any praise and so on. Bravo.
Alexei.
