Great tit – Parus major

I found this little great tit fledgeling on my way home from work in the evening. It was screaming “FEED ME” continuously, and the parents complied, even braving the photographer. ;-)

The litte one was basically OK, just not experienced enough in how to use its wings yet. So it sat on the floor lacking the stamina to reach the nest or roof higher up. I was careful not to touch it, to avoid repelling the parents with that awful human “stink”. When given a helping hand with an improvised piece-of-wood-“elevator” to the 1st floor (window sill), it made it to the roof on its own.

The parents continued stuffing various insects into it, and went about it so energetically that it slipped on the roof but luckily landed in the drain pipe, from which it emerged soon to scream “FEED ME” some more.

The current too cold and wet weather is giving young birds a hard time, hope this one made it.

Technical:
It was 7.30 pm and dark with bad weather, so light was awful. I took most shots at ISO 3200 to have enough DOFand speed. Lots of noise and lack of sharpness resulted, so I had to do quite a bit of PP, mostly noise reduction and sharpening.

Hi Gabi,
Fantastic result for ISO 3200. I don't think I could produce anything usable at 3200 with Nikon. I like all the shots, and the presentation is excellent. I like the order of the pictures too, the last one looks like a kiss :-) Great work on the PP, I wouldn't be able to spot the noise reduction. You've retained a lot of detail and most importantly (I think) the textures in the feathers. Really nice series of shots.

Gabi, je considère ce travail comme de la grande photographie...un vrai reportage. Et de plus, dans les conditions dont vous avez réalisé ces photos. Avec un ISO 3200, faut le faire! C'était sans doute un choix contraignant, mais vous vouliez tellement ne pas manquer de telles scènes.
Beaux angles de prises de vues, sans négliger les détails. Je vous félicite. J'aime beaucoup.
