Eristalis tenax. Thanks to Paul (PDP) for the ID!

Here is an interesting recent review article:

The evolution of imperfect mimicry in hoverflies
Gilbert, Francis (2004) The evolution of imperfect mimicry in hoverflies, in Fellowes, Mark and Holloway, Graham and Rolff, Jens, Eds. Insect Evolutionary Biology. CABI.

From Abstract:
Ideas about the evolution of imperfect mimicry are reviewed. Their relevance to the colours patterns of hoverflies (Diptera, Syrphidae) are discussed in detail.

Most if not all of the hoverflies labelled as mimetic actually are mimics. The apparently poor nature of their resemblance does not prevent them from obtaining at least some protection from suitably experienced birds. Mimicry is a dominant theme of this very large family of Diptera, with at least a quarter of all species in Europe being mimetic. Hoverfly mimics fall into three major groups according to their models, involving bumblebees, honeybees and social wasps.

Hello Gabi!
Very nice capture.POv and composition are wonderful.TFS...:-)

Nice macro, Gabi.
Well composed and good POV. But some parts is OE and the pictue is soft. The OOF is probaly from the close-up filter.
Anything you put in the front of the lens will get a soft effect. Your Sigma lens is great and very sharp. I have own one. Instead of a macro-filter you can buy a set of extension tubes.
Well done.

Beautiful photograph of splendid at finds I him personally what has flets therefore him what of the (WS) made. I hope that you that nice find groetjes Lia

Very nice capture Gabi. Sharp and clear with plenty of details - impressing proboscis. Only nit - it seems a little over exposed.

Hello Gabi, it's a nice composition and a very good pose of this Eristalis tenax.. As others have said it is overexposed and I feel a little too much sharpening too. The hairs on the eyes (which are a good indication of E. tenax ID) show the oversharpening.

Well done.

Great Macro, Gabi
Very good composition, good details and colour, nice background.
TFS!

Gabi, I think this one has a great pov and a great composition.

A very nice macro with plenty of details.

I have the feeling the shot could be improved a little bit. I tried a workshop, but, anyway, it's a matter of preference. After all, your picture is already a great one.
