Hi all!

My favourite winter hobby - ski hiking - naturally affects my photography. This year, we are again so lucky with the snow and weather conditions. After a week spent in the Diemtigtal in the Berner Prealps I returnedto "my" mountains near my home. The summits of the Freiburger Prealps culminate at about 2400m. Here, I am about 50m beyond the summit of the "Bürglen" (2175) in the Gantrisch range. The beautiful summit is the "Gemsgrat" and on the right you just can see the rocky summit of the "Ochsen", another of my favourite ski hiking tours.

The danger of avalanches was quite small that day so I could take full advantage of the slopes covered with powder snow. I took three pictures and stitched them together with the software "autopano". Sometimes this software works better than photomerge of PS, but sometimes it's the contrary. The problem is always the uniform blue sky. Here, it worked perfectly well.

Kind regards

Markus

fantastic capture. you fell very small when looking on those majestic mountains.

p.s. you should use shadow highlight from photoshop to recover some details from the shadow areas.

Hi Markus.
Happy New Year. And welcome in 2009 with amazing picture. Superb POV. I also impressed with exposure of the image despite the bight sunlight and deep shadows of the scene. You have reflected cold fresh air of the mountains perfectly. Bravo and TFS.
Alexei.

Beautiful view with nice play of light.
I like the panorama in terms of aspect ratio.
TFS, Markus

Hello Markus !
What an awesome mountain landscape, even on the small picture - then I clicked, and I saw it in large size, and wow ! Breathtaking ! I wouldn't have guessed it's three pictures stitched together, you have done it so brilliantly, and I also like the splendid composition of the picture and the winter colors, all in blue and white. Exposure on the snow was managed very skillfully. Very well done !
Valerie.

Hi Markus,

This exquisite scene HAS to be seen in full size. It makes me feel as if I am skiing along with you on the mountains. The perfect white snow, the perfect blue sky, and the scattering of trees are just beautiful. I would never have guessed these began as three separate pictures. Just "heavenly."

Hello Markus,
This must be a fantastic place to go skiing! A most impressive panorama showing a wonderful range of mountains tops and a lovely blue sky! Excellent DOF, sharpness and colours and very nicely put together!
TFS and regards, Ulla

The large post makes one feel right there! It is so sharp. How wonderful to live near such mountains and beauty. I'm glad you are enjoying winter. Avalanche danger around here is critical right now. How scary.

Nice work and TFS

Hallo Markus
I am sure you chose your username "Heaven" with no other reason than staying and looking at what heaven ought to look like on such a regular basis. What a wonderful scenery to look at, and how wonderful is technology that I am able to look at it miles and miles away, but see it so close to my eyes. This is such a fantastic scene with endless blue sky, mountains and snow. The large mountain in the front looks as if it was covered with icing sugar. It is absolutely striking and I would love to experience this in real. Not the skiing as I think I’ll fall myself right into hospital, but the wonderful snow and the beauty of it. Very good light, nice composition and exposure. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards
Anna

Hi Markus

Great to hear that you are feeling excellent in the beginning of this year and i hope you'll keep it like this all 2009 :) Also nice to hear that you are going out and taking fresh pictures...most of us are stuck at home :(

This is a splendid panorama again and indeed your little soft ware worked magic...there is not clue where one shot beings or ends.
The scene is also breathtaking and i'm sure if i was a skier i would be very jealous of you to have such surroundings.
Superb perspective and excellent exposure balance between the bright snow and the darker, shaded parts of the mountains.

Bravo and TFS

Dear Markus,
How wonderful to get a taste of what you are experiencing in your ski-hiking tour of the Berner pre-alps. This excellent panoramic view almost makes take in a breath of the cold clear fresh air! The lighting is not easy, but your management of it is perfect!
I expect you know Adelboden where I use to ski about 40 years ago.
Thanks for this fine reminder,
Ivan

Lieber Markus,
Herzlichst
Anne

Hi Markus!

So you like panoramas more and more, it's good to see because I always thought this is somethng you really should do more!
I love the sign of wind in the snow on the close peak and also the largeness of area presented in a single picture. The huge dof works so well here...
Happy ew year to you my friend and TFS!

Best regards,
Andor

Hallo Markus,

Diewter

You do as I do...much better outside of the city or near one which has fantastic glances such as this...looks like the introit to a winter extravaganza...Lovely view much better than mine at this present time.
Bob

Hi Markus,

You are, indeed, truly fortunate to be living so close to these heavenly mountains now clad in pristine snow, Markus.
It is a beautiful day for skiing and I am sure you must have had a wonderful time.
The view all the way to the horizon is enchanting.
Thanks for sharing your joy with us in the shape of this lovely mountainscape.
Regards.
Ram

Wow~! This is beautiful! The Mountains near your home are very beautiful, unfortunatly it's a ways to the mountains were I live, and I have to use my zoom to get a shot of them from my home. Thank's for sharing! I will add this to my favorites! Cheers Josh Lewis.

Always a pleasure to view one of your LP versions Markus, the air is great up here :)
Very nice use of "autopano", the vista is breathtaking..
I envy your experience on the ski hiking trail..Thank you for sharing it.
Very well done,
Howard

Hi Markus.
The panorama format suits the mountain scenery so much better then any wide angle lens one could buy. It really feels as if I was staning next to you looking over the Alps and getting that feel of fresh cold air.
I love your composition with the main mountain perfectly placed. The touch of brown from the rocks and grass adds that perfect additional color.
TFS,
Niek

Markus-

Gorgeous image and an exceptional stitch, especially considering all that horrible deep blue sky!

Having lived with both ocean and mountains, and now near the ocean, I've decided (rationalized?) that I like the ocean better for daily life. But now this beautiful picture makes me remember my mountain days and wonder if that decision/rationalization is right. Is there a solution to this? Your images continue to cause me grief about how to answer!

Maybe your next one will answer my question for certain, or at least until the next time I go out to shoot sunrise through the sea smoke!

Best regards,

Bob

ps- are those your tracks on the far right on the shoulder of Gemsgrat (visible only in the large image)?

Bonjour Markus,
