Lesser known backyard inhabitatns:

This 10 mm Cetoniid beetle is not your usual Rose chafer, but Tropinota hirta, Zottiger Rosenkäfer, Cétoine hérissée. It sits and eats pollen on one of my weed species in the garden, Ficaria verna. The larvae live in decomposing matter. The species is found only in warm places of Switzerland.

ID is easy for once, the slightly curving up of the lateral elytrae indicate that it is a Cetoniid, flying with closed elytrae.

I will be gone for a while, see you again in June.

Lieber Dietrich,
ein perfektes Bild dieses haarigen Wesens. Dunkle glänzende Oberflächen und dazu viele feine Härchen
machen es nicht leicht, akzeptable Bilder zu bekommen. Der Meister des Blitzes hat es geschafft.
Ich wünsche eine schöne Reise, erfreuliche Erlebnisse, an die du dich später gerne erinnerst.

Tu foto interesante y típica de la época. Aqui ya se empiezan a ver insectos abundantemente pero llevamos varios dias de lluvias.

Du bist jetzt weit weg von hier und durchquerst die schönsten Landschaften. Jedoch möchte ich Dir noch zu diesem Bild des Zottigen Rosenkäfers gratulieren. Ich hab ihn oft gesehen (den Käfer) aber so gut niemals erwischt. Farbiges, klares Bild.

Interesting capture of cetoniid beetle. This is a common species also in Poland :) Very nice low POV and good sharpness/DOF.
