Hi Dietrich . A very good side view of this Blue Damselfly. With your sharp focusing and fine detail i can see every little hair on its body. Your use of the flash has given bright but still natural looking colours. A good pose with its fly for lunch. well done TFs.

Hi Dietrich,

There's an excellent image for sure! Wonderful light, color and composition, very sharp and detailed, with an attractive subject. The smooth out-of-focus background is perfect for this subject too, something that would probably be impossible to get with a compact camera.

Dear Dieter,
The metallic green and azur blue of your Damselfly - together with the sharp focus, showing even the thin hair on the insect - making it a perfect image of a Damselfly. It is an added bonus, that you were able to capture it while feeding!

I particularly like the natual colours of your photo: you do not over-"photoshop" - too many other people's photographs look like bad paintings in an Insect Book...

These damselflies are vey interesting - they do not fly much about (at least in South Africa) because their wings are so flimsy - but sit for the most part in bushes and reeds. Only in the second half of summer (January-February) they make short flights. Their mating takes place in an extraordinary way: the male seizes the female by the prothorax - immediately behind the head - with a pair of claspers attached to his abdomen. They fly in tandem, the male always in front... I have seen many notes to photos of Damselflies completly misinterpreting the image...
