[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I found this Blue in the high Swiss Alps near Zermatt, but wasn't able to capture the underside before it flew off. Hence identification is a little difficult. I think it may be Escher's Blue, Plebicula escheri, but cannot rule out the possibility of the Common Blue, Polyommatus icarus. Maybe Peter or Ivan can be more definite about it. The date may be helpful, as it seems a bit late for escheri according to Higins & Riley, who don't mention August in its flight period, but perhaps the brood is later at higher altitudes.

The picture was hand-held in bright daylight. It has been cropped slightly, resized and sharpened for TN.

Hi Alan,

Beautiful picture of this butterfly with the wide-opened wings. It looks wonderful against the green leaves. Lovely colors and very nice details. Pretty picture.

Hi Alan,
A lovely open wing capture of this blue. Beautiful composition and excellent details. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Ciao Alan,
"The upperside blue is bright and bold, black marginal lines narrow, fringes white, partially chequered black on hindwing.
Vedi qui.
Buon 2008,
Marcello
