The 14-kilometre Gorner Glacier above Zermatt shrank by 290 metres between 2007 and 2008.
SWITZERLAND GROWS AND ITALY SHRINKS: on 19 August 2009, the Swiss government approved shifting the border up to 150 meters (164 yards) into Italian territory in some areas.
The changes were made after the Swiss Federal Office of Topography found that the watershed which determined the border in 1942 had moved because of melting glaciers and snow fields... the change has already been approved by Rome.
NB My photo GLOBAL WARMING is not "photoshopped". Apart from slightyly adjusting the exposure - it is entirely in its original state. The natural colours speak for themselves.
It was taken from the Gornergrat at midday.

P.S. You can view a panorama of all 29 mountains over 4000 meters (13123ft) around Zermatt - among them famous peaks e.g. the Matterhorn (4478 m, 14692ft), Liskamm (4527m, 14852ft) and the Dufourspitze (4634 m) - with the mighty Gorner Glacier - which is, with a length of 14km and a width of 1 to 1.5km the third longest glacier of the Alps at

Hello Ingrid !
So sad !!! It's the same as for my Mer de Glace, just melting away, and someday it will be completely gone. It is really an interesting document picture to show one of the biggest problems we have on earth, and it is a first-class document due to the high quality - very natural colors, excellent details throughout the whole picture, well-chosen POV and beautiful composition. Very well done !
Valérie.

Hi Ingrid,
Nice to see a member have a different style of natural subjects, like current ecological problems. Really great. THe global warming affects all living things in their survilal rates and changing their distribution too.
This perfect image show us nicely that we will loss all water resourches and animals whwo lives within.
TFS this indication!
Have a nice Sunday!
Cheers,
Bayram
