You have set the subject in the authentic surroundings by retaining a lot of BG around the Hoverfly. I like your approach. It makes the picture look real and the plants also provide a scale to judge the size of the Hoverfly.
It is a crisp and sharp image with perfect details on the subject.

A superb macro of a female Chrysotoxum festivum (I agree with your ID). The sharpness, lighting and POV all contribute to an excellent illustration of this hoverfly species and I think you composition showing the environment is excellent too.

Hi Anne,
I am glad you didn't crop the photo any further. It looks like so many people are using the crop tool just to get in closer. I pefer to see more then only the subject, because it give an idea of the habitat and shows the technical part of the taken photo more truthfully. Yours is a realy beauty, with a great clarity and details and the most wonderful soft light. The hoverfly, which I've never seen, is situated in a lovely environment.

Great macro capture of the hoverfly with wonderful sharpness and taken from a nice POV. The colors are very natural. The interesting plant is perfectly shown and contribute to the beauty of the shot. The blurry BG is nice. Great work!
