Lesser known backyard creatures:
I thought to treat you with some of the less flashy (but still nice) animals in my backyard. There are some wildliving cockroach species like this Wood cockroach (Blattodea; Blattellidae; Ectobius sylvestris; Waldschabe). The 11 mm long animal is characterized by the black mark and the clear band on the pronotum and the lancettic body shape. Over 100 species of cockroaches are found in Europe; some of them, like the big Periplaneta, have been introduced from abroad and live in our homes.

Hello Dietrich!
I really believe that it was not easy to take a picture of this mobile creature. I tried many time to do that but till now without any success...
I like general composition, DOF and details. BG is aslo very good.
And "finally" bravo for better and better quality of your macro photos! This one is really very good! :>
Greetings,
Radomir

Hello Dietrich,
A great macro of a Wood Cockroach, your camera settings being used to excellent effect, with regard to lighting, DOF, sharpness. The composition is so good that we forget that a tip of one of the antennae has been 'cut off'.
This is a common species in Sweden, occuring occasionally in my 'backyard'.
TFS and best wishes to you, Ivan

Lieber Dieter,
Anne

Hi Dietrich,
You achieved excellent DOF in this great diagonally composed closeup..Very good use of flash to bring out sharp detail.
Nice color and POV..I might've removed those sensor spots, that's just me :)
