Again a bee on a white flower! I tried to solve the problem of the overpowering white flower by---including as little of the flower as possible! And by choosing a welking flower. This time I show a 17 mm long Sand bee (Hymenoptera; Apidae; Andrena hattorfiana; Witwenblumen-Sandbiene)

ID: Andrena wild bees are all characterized by two satinlike tuffs on their front. That's the easy part! In my region there are about 150 species of this genus! I checked with the book of H. Bellmann, 1995, "Bienen, Wespen Ameisen"Kosmos. and with the excellent site www.wildbienen.de/eb-acine.htm. I inspected the pictures of about 30 species and came up with this one, A. hattorfiana, characterized by reddish hairs at the abdominal tip.

Sand bees dig holes in the soil where they prepare brood chambers for their progeny. Since several females may share an entry hole the breeding system is called communal. But they are nevertheless not social bees.

Technical specs as in earlier posts.

Hi Dietrich,
This capture of a bee on a white flower is excelent according to me.I think there is no trouble with white. DOV, POV, details wonderful.
TFS friend,
Cheers,
Bayram

Hi Dietrich,
a nice close-up with good composition and nice POV.
F25m I think F8-F11 is enough for a good DPF for a 100mm macro and with the very small aperture you will lose a lot of sharpness in a digital camera because of the diffraction.
Well done.

Hi Dietrich,

Much better this time with white nitemare. How come i cant understand but this time bee is more exposed. The location of flashes and expo speed i guess. Great POV, infos, and details as always.

Ümit KEABPÇI

Hi Dietrich
Very nice presentation of unusual bee. Good DOF and sharpness I dont like composition. I think that you could crop it (square crop) for different compo and to remove the white belt in upper part of the shot
I did a WS
Best wishes
Krzysztof

Ciao Dietrich,
gli imenotteri sono certamente gli insetti più difficili da fotografre in natura.
Tu ci riesci sempre molto bene, evitando fastidiosi riflessi e ootenendo ottime immagini.
Buon fine settimana,
Marcello

Típica y abundante ya en esta época, la captaste magistralmente a pesar de su minúsculo tamaño. Excelente iluminación, enfoque y profundidad. Muy buen trabajo a mi gusto Dietrich.
Buen fin de semana: Josep Ignasi.

Hello Dietrich. Your calculation works well with this bee on the white flower which is my favorite. Excellent perch on the small flower making the bee looks big and displays superb sharpness and clarity. The details are well seen and you have managed good light and depth too blurring out the background. Nicely crop and well done. Regards, Jusni.

Hi Dietrich.
Amazing close-up picture with brilliant technique and perfect reproduction of all colour shades and details of the insect and flowers. As usual for your macro works DOF and flash light are amazing. Bravo and best wishes.
Alexei.

You make excellent photographs of nature.
