Lesser known backyard visitors

This is not our everyday bee... but rather the 9 mm long Early mining bee (Hymenoptera; Apidae; Andrena haemorrhoa (=A. albicans); Rotschopfige Sandbiene), a non-social wild bee. Here it feeds on Wild plum, Prunus insititia. It is a frequent visitor, easily overlooked for its small size. ID is easy, you will notice the characteristic reddish hair tuft at the abdominal tip. The genus Andrena is represented in my region with 130 species, all have the genus-specific hair curl ("Hüftlocke") at the upper hind femur, three cubital cells and an almost straight basal vein in the wing.

The picture is a collage of two photographies of the same animal, taken at the same spot. I wanted to show its ID traits, so I tried my hand on this technique with PS. In a workshop version I applied a colour correction.

Hello Dietrich,
I must look out for these little Bees with a brush at the abdominal tip! Excellent collage with sharp details showing it from different angles. Fine colours too and the two shots make a fine composition together!
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hi Dietrich.
Wonderful wide DOF. You managed to show this so interesting scene in focus. Sharpness of the entire image is really great as well as the great lighting and well illuminated BG. Bravo. Excellent close-up shot as usual for you.
Alexei.

Hallo Dieter,
Zurück von Berlin, habe ich schnell mal nachgeschaut auf TN. Freue mich sehr an Deinem erzählerischen Bild. Eine Biene mit Hüftlocke, reizend! Sehr gelungene Collage. Musst mir mal zeigen, wie man das macht. Und wir sehen uns bald in Marly mit Markus, wenn das noch festteht.
Herzliche Grüsse
Anne
