Polar Bear
Ours polaire

Having been in Berlin I would like to present some pictures which I have taken there in the zoo. I'm not a great fan of these institutions, but I have to say that I saw quite amazing scenes there and I would like to show some of them. Most of the animals there have quite a big space at disposition, and they don't seem to be too unhappy. However I saw some mammals which had to live on a restricted space which had a little strange behaviour.
We especiallly went to see the Polar Bears, because of little Knut, which by now is quite big. This picture however doesn't show him.
Harry Eggens (Proframe)in its last picture has added an excellent and very complete note on Polar Bears, so I don't make some note on these mammals. I just can say that this young bear lives in the same area as two other bears, a male and a female, which are always together. So this fellow lives mostly on a small island on the water and is mostly alone.

Hi Anne.
I have never visited Berlin zoo and will never it too but I know that it is so nice. In any case pictured by you scene is wonderful. You managed to reflect a very cute moment. Shot is composed and framed perfectly. May be image is underexposed a little bit but this is not a point at all. My compliments and best regards.

I to am not a great fan of Zoos but many do a very good job as it seems Berlin does.
The pose that you have captured is lovely..I have to honest and say I have never seen a Polar bears pads on his feet!
Superb camera work with a very low shutter speed and nice dof.

Hello Anne,

What a wonderful pose you've cptured this self cleaning Polar Bear in.
Hard to believe that as Global Warming go's on like it did over the past decades, there will be no more of these giants in the wild in lets say 50 years and we all have to go to the Zoo to take a look at them.
Focus and sharpness are very good and I love the fur detail, but have got the feeling, please correct me if I'm wrong, that the image is a little under exposed.
Nevertheless a very nice image.

En le voyant ainsi, on n'imagine pas à quel point il peut être redoutable! J'ai, comme toi, beaucoup de peine avec les zoos, surtout en ce qui concerne des animaux qui vivent dans des grands espaces, soit sur terre, soit dans les airs. Mais c'est vrai qu'il est beau, cet ours, et que tu l'as très bien mis en scène.

Excellent shot and a great action moment captured. Very neat and sharp image and you have made good use of available light. The dark BG works well here in highlighting the subjects. Excellent POV and composition. Kudos.

This is a very nice photo! This bear does'nt look unhappy al all!! I like the way you managed to show off the different colours of hair this animal has. It looks like a very expensive hair salon hairdo!! Well done Anne. I enjoy the variety of photos you have to offer.

Bonjour Anne,

Très bonne composition. Superbe posture de cet ours en train de faire sa toilette. Très bonne profondeur de champ et parfaite netteté. La lumière est un peu faible, mais bon difficile d'augmenter plus les iso qui sont déjà a 400.
