TN excursion to Moosalp VS:
Anne found this 5 mm long staphylinid on an Pulsatilla petal. Such a small object is beyond daylight photography. I tried my hand with the dual flash.
The beetle is a Moonspeck rove beetle (Coleoptera; Staphylinidae; Bolitobius (=Lordithon) lunulatus; Mondfleckiger Pilzräuber) . It has a wide palaearctic distribution but it's biology is not known: its larvae might be predators of dipteran larvae inside fungi. |

Hi Dietrich!
Interesting and very strange looking beetle - it looks somehow 'archaic' to me ;-) Like one of first insects on Earth. Great macro, 5mm and looks like giant. Dual flash worked well again.

Lieber Dieter,
Anne
