It's a pleasure and an honour to me to dedicate this post to Ram Thakur in order to thank him for his encouraging words, his wisdom and friendship.

Sailing

I’m sailing -
Sometimes flying,
Both to escape
The not always happy
Day-to-day life.
Far away, I hope to find
Some tender dreams,
A bit of peace and harmony -
The three badly damaged
Lonely pillars,
Holdovers of the ruins
Called humanity.

I know, it's a little bit sad, but after a week at my office, after all the bad things that happen on this planet, I sometimes feel sad...

I thought I'd post a little different picture today, one that can't be immediately assimilated to ice.

This doesn't change anything to the fact it's again an ice picture. What you see here is frozen mud. The ground of the quarry Tatüren in the Plasselbschlund and the close surroundings are covered with a thick layer of sand and earth with the typical coloration of the Flysch region. This mud is saturated with water, and when the vernal melting takes place the water works on the surface digging nice patterns. During the night, tha water freezes as we had -10°C during the last few nights. I could walk on these paintings without spoiling them because they were covered with a thin layer of crystal clear ice.

I apologize for those who - like Oana - rather would like to see flowers, birds and butterflies. I also must admit that I have announced the end of this kind of pictures too early. Our nights, as I have said, still are very cold and at the moment the ice patterns are simply superb...

Taken in RAW,basic level corrections in CAMERA RAW, imported to PS, level corrections, sharpness, attenuation of the bright tones.

Kind regards

Markus

Hello Markus,
We see it and walked over it, you see it and makes it to art. Very beautiful in fantastic sharpness. Great composition.

Hi Markus,

Hello Markus!

Beautifull dedication and note. Picture is superb. It looks like pure art with sailboats motive. I've got only one question - is this chair on left side of sail :-) ?

Hi Markus,

Please, don't ever stop posting your marvelous abstract works of art. I would never have guessed this was frozen mud but I immediately saw the sails. When I look at your pictures I feel like I am seeing the world through your eyes - eyes that see what mine surely would have missed. I consider this to be a magnificent gift from you to us. I love it!!!

Ciao Markus,

Jacqueline

very interesting textures, this is quite the abstract.

Hi Markus,

This looks so relief on the thumbnail -like a lithographical fossile:). You've noticed this very well. Lovely different orientations on the frozen mud stratum with fine, textural details. Nice focus on the frozen surface using the side lighting that provides to the shot a 3-D effect. Great presentation MF!
TFS and have a nice new Week!
Cheers,

Bayram

Lieber Markus,

Hello Markus,
Ah to have your eye Markus, you are one TrekNature contributer that has inspired me a great deal when I am out in the field. I am seeing things that I once overlooked. But my captures of these natural wonders are still quite bad to be honest. But your superb work keeps making me try, maybe one day. This image is wonderful with its colors and lines, a true piece of art. Thank you so much Markus.

Hello Markus,
A fascinating capture!
This frozen mud and its formations remind me of a type of fossil of some primitive creatures that lived over 400 million years ago called graptolites. They are found in fossilised mud, similar to the flysch you have in the area where you took this. The branched structure is rather similar and for me I think of this similarity rather than sailing boats.
A part from that this abstract beauty is wonderful, showing one again something that you have an eye for that most of us miss.
I thank you for that!
Have a good week,
Ivan

ciao Markus!
the spring is delay in the canton of Freiburg, the frost is still night and you're ally managed to introduce in this wonderful alchemy of mud and ice really interesting ..
another pearl

best regards sERGIO

I'm sure Ram will love this! and as Adnac said , you have a keen eye for patterns. This is a wonderful sample of abstract composition , which is exploited a lot in painting and and not that much in photography. When shooting such things what actually matters is play of light and the angle of light which can highlight a pattern. Here the light is good and the colors vary from warm at the bottom left to somewhat cooler blue at the top right.
Did you use flash?
I'm sure you would have experimented a lot with shots like this and i would like to more of these :-)

hi Markus,
all these pictures where you catch the geometric expression of nature are wonderful, this one is special and I like also the brown tonality, bravissimo

Hello Markus! Very interesting sail. Original art of nature. Good work. Very good sharpness. Well done!

Hi Markus,
yes, this is very beautiful and touching dedication. Very pleasant and picturesque drawing of depicted ice. I like it.

TFS. Best regards, Leonid

I am touched by this superb dedication you honoured me with on my birthday on the 22nd, Markus. Thanks a million!
This image you have created from frozen mud is mind boggling. Reminicent of many things simultaneously, it evokes in my mind associations with cave art of the ancient homo sapien, religious frescos with Christian iconography, work of Paul Klee, avant garde art in diverse media, abstract wood carving and so on.
My eye also sees three-dimensional objects in the intricate patterns captured within the frame.
The shape of a ship in the middle is inescapable and your caption 'Sailing' turns very apt in relation to it.
To sum up, you have created a masterpiece by "seeing" the muddy ice with a figurative third eye.
Hats off to you, my friend!!
Warm regards.
Ram

Hi Markus,

Nice composion and close up from this ice stuctures.
Good of sharpness and colours.

Wisdom he has and a complete ability to go back in any point in his life and recall what he felt..I am always interested in Rams words as much as I am in your Heavenly:-) designs in nature....Sincerely it is a pleasure to see when you post...I should suspect you would or should have a collection for your office wall or home!

Markus,

Great note. I would never have guessed that this was frozen mud.

I love your ice and now mud pictures. We have a lot of flowers, birds and wildlife, but not many ice pictures. You have a great eye to find these patterns.

You focus and lighting is just right.

Thanks for sharing you cold world with us.

Bob
