Famille des Zygaenidae, Sous-famille des Zygaeninae
Papillon « nocturne » à activité diurne.
Envergure : 3- 4,5 cm.

Description :
ailes antérieures noires avec des reflets métaliques et des taches qui vont du rouge au jaune, parfois même au blanc. L'un des segments abdominaux est rouge. Les ailes postérieures sont rouges avec une frange noire. Sexes semblables.

Habitat : prairies et lisières de forêt jusqu'à environ 1500 m.

Période de vol : de juin à septembre.

Phase d'hibernation : chenille
La chenille est jaune avec une ligne dorsale et des points noirs. Elle se nourrit de coronille variée (Coronilla varia) et d'espèces voisines.

But we don't know anything about the place where the picture was taked.

I love this colourful butterfly Raphael. I love the glittering bright colours and how the 2 wings are different colours. Very well done, I only wish you had written up some notes about this beauty.

PS I have finally worked out how to read the notes in French. I changed the whole page to French, and voila, there it is!
