Hello Anne,
I think you are right in thinking that this is the caterpillar of a Melitaea species, probably M. dydima, though I have never seen it myself in the caterpillar stage. Though this shot is not perfect it is sharp enough to see the necessary details and the BG is fine. One of the Peters could probably be more precise.
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Hallo Anne

Hi Anne.
Very cute specimen at nice scenery you have pictured. I like true summer colour palette and lighting, excellent details and sharpness of the insect and plant. DOF is selected perfectly too. But what about vertical cropping? My best regards and TFS.
Alexei.

Clear and well sharpened.
A bit centered... I agree with alex... why don´t you try another crop?
Thank you for viewing and commenting my work.

Hello Anne,
Great capture of this interesting caterpillar. Sharp details and good colours. I think you've left too much of the background too, otherwise it is a fine composition.
TFS and regards, Ulla

What an interesting caterpillar, Anne!
Look at those spikes in alternating white and yellow colours on its body.
Maybe zeroing on the subject and the flower and cropping off surroundings would have been a better idea.
Nevertheless, the image is very rich in content.

Hi Anne,
This picture certainly is interesting! I think caterpillars are difficult, and my Eyes have been Wide Shut to them hitherto :-), so it's very valuable to have a good picture like yours with a tentative id to start out from (I also think it's a M. didyma after your posting has spurred a search in lit. and on the net). TN is for learning about nature so I think it's great when it works this way and initiates search for further knowledge with an inspiring picture as a "point de départ". So when I get to see this kind of larva, I will immediately think of your highly valuable posting.
With best regards,
Goran
P.S. Technically I think I would have cropped it more to get a closer view, but I'm quite aware that the original picture may not leave room for this. Did a quick WS, just wanted to see how much it would allow - hope you don't mind...?

Hello Anne a very nice shot the DOF is perfectly shallow with a good POV and angle. The bokeh and subtle colours creates good depth tfs rgds Necip.

Hallo Anne,
