Backyard pond:
You won't believe it but I took the picture 5 minutes ago in my backyard (Marly/Switzerland). The Newts are already out prowling on February 28. This is the red bellied Alpine newt (Salamandridae: Triturus alpestris; Bergsalamander; Triton alpestre).

How Newts overwinter: As a workshop I have added a shot with newts in a burrow of Arvicola.

Here is another shot of Newts in my pond

Seems that spring already has come to Switzerland! Very good picture of this brave and curious little creature!

I really like the low POV of this shot.
What a colorful newt, Dietrich.
Do you get a lot of them in your backyard?
How big are they?
Very sharp details and excellent light.
TFS. : )

Dietrich,

That's a great shot. Taking photos of a newt on the sidewalk in your backyard is usually rather boring, but the unique angle and composition really makes this shot a winner.
It does seem that it isn't quite tack sharp on the eye, but that's the only imperfection I can see.

hallo Dieter,
Da ist ja etwas los in Deinem Garten. Wirklich erstaunlich. Du hast ihm wohl ein wenig Angst gemacht! Interessante Perspektive auf deinem Bild. Uebrigens habe ich im Botanische Garten letzte Woche schon Froesche gesehen.
Liebe Gruesse
Anne

Hello Dietrich,
nature is defenitly mixed up by the high temperatures in western europe. I had the first toads crossing the road on February 2nd!
Hop they will find their way to the local water before the temperatures drop.
Regards, Jacob

Hola Dietrich,
Buena toma de agradable composición, y buenos detalles. Un cordial saludo

Hello Dietrich
Very nice capture! This little fellow seems to be surprised with your flash. It is an interesting creature indeed.
Very good POV, DOF and composition.
My compliments and TFS.

Hello Dietrich!
Nice presentation of Triturus species :) Bravo especially for the worksops! :)
By the way, believe me or not, but yesterday when I was in field I met a few individuals of T. vulgaris, the most common Triturus species in Poland, just walking to the pond :) I had no time to prepare this photo for presentation but I hope soon it will be possible :)

Summarizing you presentation: nice to see something new (amphibians!) in your gallery and ice to see the first worskops! (Sorry if I overlooked any :>).
Best greetings,
Radomir

PS. Many thanks for comments!
