I like this shot Grzegorz.I've never seen such black, solid looking wings on a bee before.3-4cm is a big bee! Thanks.
Hello Grzegorz, it's a good picture in terms of focus and detail, the colours are very good too. I htink the composition is too centred, with the space below the bee not adding anyhthing. That said it is a good shot. I'm fairly sure this is a Violet Carpenter Bee, Xylocopa violacea.

Grzegorz, I like the different POV displaying this black beauty's wings with superb detail & sharpness. And the vertical framing keeps my mouse-wheel busy!! ;-) Good note..Nice job! P.S. You might've taken the subject off-center slightly as I must agree with Paul here.

Bravo!.
I know the difficulty to photograph these exemplars Grzegorz... I have some also published.
Very good image by its perspective allows to visualize this bumblebee perfectly and to frighten the detail of its wings.
The DOF is adapted, in spite of a little propitious bottom.
Bravo!.

Hi Grzegorz
Like you titles, very good, I love wordplay, and you are good with it in a language not your own.
vey nice bee. i would crop a bit below the wings, it should improve the impact.

If this guy wants my Coke, he can have my Coke. Someone wearing this much leather can only be bad news:) You captured this well and with excellent detail.
Thanks for posting

Fajnie zrobiłes to zdjęcie. Ja bałabym się ze mnie ugryzie albo moje dziecko. Ładne zdjęcie do którego potrzeba dużo odwagi.

Hey, in fact this is the largest European bee:
Xylocopa violacea - Carpenter Bee
The funny thing abut it is that this species has no sting and is completely harmless :-)
The English name is related to its breeding habit - the species cuts with jaws through the trunk of old trees and build a nest just with one egg inside the wood. Polish name - zadrzechnia fioletowa has the same derivation.
This species occurs also in Poland, although is very rare. here you have the info from the Polish Red Data Book of Animals:
"A species is known from 8 localities in Poland, discovered in the period of 1868-1935; since then there has been no confirmation of its occurrence in Poland. A decline of Xylocopa violacea (its Polish population was separated from the continuous range) was probably caused by scarcity of old and dry trees where females place nests. Any discovered localities of X. violacea should be taken under protection. The species is not protected by law."
