Welcome buck after a two week break :-) Today another picture from Ukraine. The photo was taken on Crimea Peninsula in August 2005. The grasshopper was about 3 cm long. It is camouflaged – I hope you like it :-) Unfortunately I dont know the name of the species.

The name of the grasshopper is Oedipoda coerulescens (Linnaeus, 1758)
I want to thank Michal cedryk for the information about the ID.

The Acrididae are very large family of grasshoppers, comprising some 10,000 of the 11,000 species of the entire suborder Caelifera. Members in this family usually have their wings well developed. Usually they are camouflaged but some of them has bright, vivid colors. Males can make sounds (stridulation) by rubbing legs against sides of forewings. Most species feed on grasses. There are four subfamilies: Acridinae, Cyrtacanthacridinae, Catantopinae, Oxyinae.

Order: Orthoptera
Suborder: Caelifera
Family: Acrididae

When the larve are similar in shape to the adult and there is no pupa stage the insects are called hemimetabolous (Hemi = part). Orthoptera are Hemimetabolous insects. Hemimetabolous insects are also: cicadas, mantids and dragonflies.

Hello Krzysztof,
Welcome back! You've captured this camouflaged grasshopper very well, excellent details and colours. I'm afraid I can't help you with ID.
TFS, Ulla

Czesc Krzysiek,

It's Oedipoda coerulescens (Linnaeus, 1758) - "siwoszek blekitny" in Polish. The species is widespread from Western Europe to Far East. It has blueish or greenish hind wings, seen only in flight.
Overall a nice shot!
Best greetings,
Michal

Not an easy shot to take on the ground. Great sharpness and OOF background highlights the hopper very well.
Chris

Hello Krzysztof,
You present us a very detailed grasshoper, thanks to the poximity to it.
Good the low POV used here, and you were lucky enough to get the shot done before the jump.
NIce color saturation, showing us the camouflage pattern, and the composition is well balanced.
Kind regards and thanks for share,
JM

Hi Krzysztof
Nice to see you back :) I've only seen you covered in flies in the WS picture from Michal :)) Great shot that, too :))
A very nice macro work here from you!
This grasshopper looks very nice and it's presented here very well.
I like the overall composition and the sharpness of the details.
You were a bit lucky to capture him on such a surface - usually i met this guy in such conditions that would but his camouflage in advantage adn you couldn't see anything.
Excellent POV, very good DOF adn spot-on exposure, too.
Very well done, my friend!

Bravo and TFS
Horia

Hello Krzysztof,
Welcome back to TN!
This is an excellent macro, sharp, good DOF and well presented.
I think Michal's ID suggestion is correct, but one might add that the appearance in individuals varies according to the habitat.
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Hi Krzysztof.
Perfect macro shot with precise details, excellent sharpness and nice lighting. POV and DOF are selected extremely exactly. BG is amazing too. My compliments and TFS.
Alexei.

Fine picture of a grasshopper from your archives, Krzysztof.
The unifrom camouflage colour of this insect is quite distinct and the patterns and designs on its body are beautifully etched out in this very sharp image.
Thanks and take care.

Witam!

An wstepie literowka - 2 wyraz ;>
A co sie tyczy fotki to calkiem przyzwoite makro :) Podoba mi sie kolorystyka zwierza wtapiajacego sie w tlo. Glebia ostrosci jest ok, moze z wyjatkiem okolicy oka, gdzie troche uciekla.
Pozdrawiam i czekam na cos nowego! ;>
Radek
