Nikon or Minolta? Canon or Nikon? Olympus or Pentax? Etc.

I think, looking my previous shot of the fine Scarce Swallowtail (Assorted Extremes) taken with help of Minolta Maxxum 7D and Minolta Maxxum AF 100-400 F4.5-6.7 Zoom APO lens, that all these questions are rhetorical.

The principal keys here are your mind and hands, your love to subject and to using equipment, your patience and tenacious work.

I am sure that more advanced equipment as a rule and mainly allows to get greater share of good shots in more difficult shooting conditions.

That is why I love my new photo system as I loved my (now not only mine) Minolta set. However, I love most of all to shoot and share my pictures with you, dear friends.
_____

This is my one of the first attempts to use prime telelens for butterfly shooting. I liked to use for this purpose Sigma 70-300 f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro with its amazing minimal distance of focusing (0.95 m) and macro mode. Nikkor 300 mm f/4 has also amazing MDF – 1.45 m. When I shoot butterflies at such distance I feel myself absolutely free. I think and butterflies do too.

Hello Alexei,
Superb shot of I. podalirius using your long lens. The sharpness and DOF couldn't be better from this POV,that shows this fresh specimen at its best against a pleasin OOF sky BG.
A wonderful portrait of this species and thanks for sharing it.
Yes I also feel a freedom with my long lens equipment when taking butterfly and other insect shots!
Best regards,
Ivan

Hello Alexei!
Long time ago I visited your gallery last time... :)
Great to see that in April you have active so beautiful species of butterfly. In Poland I. podalarius is strictly protected by the law, and rather rare in the wild.
Very nice composition and colouration, the light control is also 1st class what was not easy with so light species :)
Greetings from Lodz,
Radomir

Hi Alex,
As always, a wonderful photo with great talent to handle carefully the approach and a level of detail. Very interesting and very appropriate your note, which expressed much sorrow at the picture and everything that implies. You're right, it's always good to have quality equipment, but the photo was born and remains in the soul and heart.
Regards & TFS!

Hello Alexei,

Hello Alex, I think you are right about equipment even though excellent equipment will render the subject in a more pleasing way to the eye and often help. But all is in the passion, you have to like what you use as much as what you photograph sometimes! This picture is superb, Alex. You managed to expose it perfectly even though the light is strong and bright. The colours are also amazing and the background so soft, surprising at f/18 for me! You work very well with your Nikon, Sir! Thank you,

Francine

Impesionante Alexei,
toda ella en foco y con una nitidez extraordinaria. Luz buena que hace que tenga un gran realismo. Me encanta aprender de estas tomas, que hacen que me supere día a día.
Un abrazo: Josep Ignasi.

Hi Alexei,

Lovely shot with excellent details and great colors
beautiful POV and DOF

TFS Thijs

I just did a net search on this Nikon because I am not familiar with it....and I find it differs quite a bit from the D300...better quality here..and some factor which brings out the truth in colors whereas the D300 does as best it can...amazing..if I had not just gone into personal bankruptcy I would buy one:-) You should be a salesman as well as a technical person Alexie!
Bob

Thanks so much, Alexei! This is a superb shot! I love everything about it!
your note is very touching..
Cheers!

Hi Alexei,

Nice to see the debate about brands here in TN. I shoot Nikon on digital but working with Minolta, Olympus, Canon and Nikon with films. All the same and it is just about the man behind it.

Top class work on this superb butterfly and TFS.

Hello Alex
(I write in italian to express myself in the better way)
Livio

Hi Alexei. Really a good POV with light to exalt the magnificent colours and texture of Podalirio. Excellent DOF.

Hello Alexei,
I've already been looking at this marvellous capture twice, but I couldn't find the right words to express my appreciation! The clarity, colours and depth in this wonderful composition are just brilliant and I've spent a lot of time just admiring it! It's a wonderful subject too that doesn't occur here and I've only seen it once in Turkey.
Many thanks and I look forward to your next masterpiece!
Kind regards, Ulla

Dear Alexei,
a marvellously composed, brilliantly lighted capture of our friend the Scarce Swallowtale that seems to be quite abundant in Odessa as well as around Vienna in these days!
Stunningly clear details considering the long shooting distance, giving a convincing proof of the merits of high end precision equipment. Congratulations to your new equipment my dear friend. It really makes me reconsider my reluctance of carrying heavy equipment with me.
With thanks, and all my best wishes,
Peter

Hola Alexei.
You have a wonderful photo here. Very very sharp and clear. The colors and light are natrual as it should be all the time.
I LOVE D700. once You give it a try to this camera You dont want to go back, and I fell that My D80 is just a little toy, but i will keep using it for birds.
Photos of My family with D700 and 50mm f/1.4 are just beautiful, they come out just like the good old times.
Have a nice weekend My friend.

Hi Alexei

You pose a very good question and i think managed to give an excellent answer to it, too.
It really matters less what brand you use. Of course, it matters if it's a quality equipment or not, but since nowadays most well-known brands reached a degree of good quality, it comes to the determination and skill of the photographer.
Your comparison here is excellent in this aspect and shows this lovely Scarce Swallowtail is superb light, with great details and gorgeous colors...very similar to your other shot - with the Minolta.
I've always loved your talks and explanations on equipment and i really like this one, too. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Bravo and best wishes
Horia

Hello Alexei !
Among the seveal pictures in your gallery I have missed during my absence, this is my favourite, probably because of the soft, lovely colors, and because this is one of my favourite butterflies (I have never seen it in real, can only admire it on photos). The details are amzing, the composition is splendid, the POV is excellent. Everything is just perfect. Very well done !
