[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Dance of death with two dancers - spider and poor caterpillar which unfortunatelly crossed its path with it. Like in late medieval allegory spider could play as a Death leading its adversary to the doom.

Picture was taken during our summer holidays on Crimean Penisula. That was hot day, as almost always on Crimea, with 30C degrees and humidity so high that you feel like swimming. This day I was ill and didn't go to the beach. I stayed at home and captured many interesting subjects in our friends garden. During two hours I found five or six different spiders' species, many wasps, true bugs, molluscs... That was good hunting :-)

Although spiders, like nearly all arachnids, are carnivorous predators, their methods of gathering food vary considerably between species. Spiders prey on a wide variety of animals, again depending on the species of spider. Small spiders can eat insects, false-scorpions and other arachnids, while larger spiders can prey on larger animals, such as small fish, young snakes, lizards, birds, and small mammals. Spiders can be divided into two main groups on the basis of the primary technique that they use for capturing food; species that build webs versus species that do not.
Web-spinners, which compose about half of all spider species, spin webs characteristic of their species. These types of spiders tend to be sedentary (they do not move around from place to place much). They generally wait on or near their webs for prey like flying insects to become entangled. Web-spinning spiders often have highly developed tactile senses and poor eyesight; the vibrations of their webs tell them most of the information they need to know about the world around them, so visual acuity is unnecessary.

I like Saint-Saens. Have you ever listened to his Danse Macabre?
Although I like the moody light against the black BG, I could not avoid saving this image and put some more light with S&H.
You get wonderful colours and details, but I decided not to post as a workshop, I think this one is much more artistic, it remember me the chinese shadows. Nice one!
