Back with yet another swan photo. Edited in Paint Shop Pro Photo XI - adjusted the color slightly, cropped and sharpened a little.
Although it can't be seen in this photo, some of the swans I've been photographing have pink feathers. Not over their whole body, mind you... a feather here or there or a splotch of pink in various locations. I'd thought it was some sort of color phase or perhaps a genetic trait common to a particular 'family'. Enlightenment, however, came in the form of a BBC news item. It seems the pink feathers are caused by a bacterial infection in/on the feathers, which causes them to lose their water repellency. Fortunately it can be addressed by washing the affected areas with anti bacterial dish washing detergent.
