Large Skipper, Ochlodes venatus

I made this composite so that it would be possible to compare the male and female together and also to show the different wing positions of the insect at rest.

The top two pictures are of a female and show different aspects of the wing markings in the "spread wing" pose. Those below are of a male, in the same location on the same day, and show the "folded" wing position on the left and the "spread wing" pose again on the right. Note that the quadrate markings are prominent on the females and the brands on the males.

The detailed exif data refers to the top-left image. All were hand-held under bright natural lighting conditions, but have been severely resized to create the collage.

Hi Alan. This has been done very well . It shows us the Large Skipper so well both the male and the female. You have taken all of the four pictures with fine detail and natural colours. Well done TFS.
