[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I'm still experimenting with flash and camera settings and using the bumble bees in my back graden as rather tricky but plentiful subjects.

I was surprised when working up this image that the bee has its front legs crossed and seemingly unused. Maybe they needed cleaning.

Anyway, this was shot with shutter priority, seeking to get rid of any movement blur and sacrificing depth of field as a result. There is still quite a lot of bee in focus in this head-on shot, despite the f/3.4 aperture. It has been cropped and resized in Elements 6, after noise reduction using Neat Image. Lastly the unsharp mask at 100/0.6/0.

hi alan,
very nice macro. great details

Hi Alan,
I have to say that you've got the flash fully under control. The brightness is perfect and the colors stayed real. Your shallow DOF did give you a wondeful BG but your focus is slightly off. Even with such a shallow DOF the head of the bee should be in focus. This is where humans look at first and then inspect the rest of the photo. SO next time focus on the eyes and keep in mind that 1/3 of the sharpness is infront of the focus point and 2/3 behind it.
TFS,
Niek

Hello Alan
superb shot with great frontal POV, excellent sharp details
the flower is very beautiful too, the BG highlights the subjecte very well
Have a good night
