[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Thank you Niek for your suggestions and for your honest comments. Yes, the face of yesterday's bee was just ever-so-slightly out of focus in favour of the legs and thorax.

So this will be my last in this series of images of bees on Lavender, and I think that the head of this one is pretty sharp. I also like the hardness of the leading edge of the closer wing; for me it carries a great feeling of structural strength with it.

So this was with fill-in flash at a shutter priority of 1/200 and, again, a pretty shallow field but hopefully capturing some atmosphere and character as a result. Hand held, as the bees keep moving from flower to flower with hardly a moment's rest, and manually focussed.

The BG has been treated with Neat Image to flatten it. After cropping I stil had to reduce from about 1600 pixels to 800 and subsequently used the unsharp mask at 120/0.6/0.

Very good macro of this bee!

Nice picture,good macro.Regards.Alin.

Hi Alan,
Thank you for this photo. I like this one a lot. The shallow DOF certainly worked perfect here. The focus is fully on the head of the bee. I like the overall color pallet and the composition.
I am not sure how your work flow is, but I have a feeling that you only sharpen after the reduction to meet the TN standard. You might want to consider to sharpen before and after. I did a workshop where I added just a little more USM, although I am not sure if the difference is visible.
TFS,
Niek

Hello Alan,
Thank you for your kind words on completing my third anniversary with TN!
An excellent capture of a queen Bumblebee, a subject I find hard to capture with good all-round sharpness, probably because of the furriness.
So I think this is a good result with the features shown clearly enough to ID it.

Thanks again and best regards,
Ivan
