During a well deserved break from working hard!!!! This little frog was hopping around my garden. Even though we were having a thunderstorm at the time, I rushed outside to get a few shots, this is the best of them. Oh well....back to work...

Common frog
Rana temporaria

Common frogs have smooth skin that varies in colour from grey, olive green and yellow to brown. They have irregular dark blotches, a dark stripe around their eyes and eardrum, and dark bars on their legs. They are able to lighten or darken their skin to match their surroundings.

This species is widespread in mainland Britain. Common frogs are most active at night, and hibernate during the winter in pond mud or under piles of rotting leaves, logs or stones. They can breathe through their skin as well as their lungs.

In spring males croak to attract females. The male embraces a female and fertilises her eggs as she lays them in shallow, still water – frogspawn is a familiar sight. Tadpoles hatch, and over about 14 weeks gradually change into froglets: a process known as metamorphosis.

What does it eat?
Adults eat insects that they catch with their long, sticky tongue, snails, slugs and worms. Young tadpoles feed on algae, but then become carnivorous.

When will I see it?
February to October.

Where will I see it?
By the pond, in the meadow area and sometime the woodland area. Also by lakes, canals, meadows and woodland. Sometimes found in Alans garden!

Don't work too hard my friend! ;) This is a nicely composed shot. Details are sharp and POV is good, though it could be lower. Colors are very nice and exposure is spot on. Is this the ringtone frog? ;)

very nice photo - I'm guessing that was last nights storm which went on for hours! I'm amazed you spotted anything in it at all.
Maybe a little more frog in the frame?

What a nice frog that you have well captured ! I like its expression with big eyes. The composition is pleasant with beautiful orange colors. DOF and sharpness are very good ! Thanks for sharing Alan.

This has to be one of your post, Alan! The DOF is absolutely perfect. You must have been really close if you were in macro mode. I would have laughed so hard if he jumped on your lens and slimed it!!!

Have a great weekend,

Alli

Thank you for sharing picture and note and for the enjoyment which they give to me.

Hello Alan!
Very nice capture of this golden frog.Colors, lighting,DOF,POV and composition are wonderful. Thanks for sharing.

The POV is fabulous, Alan! The DOF with the head being the focal point gives the composition that big-eyed frog look. It makes me smile! Very well done! I almost missed the adorable capture because of being delayed by work... glad I looked back :-)

nice, I like how the frog stands out, because the background is so blurred :)
I didn't suspect that this photo was taken during a storm, it looks like there was a shining sun :)
