[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
We had our first frost last night, but as the morning went on the sun came out and we have been lecky to get good weather. I managed to get out and I was really pleased to see these Common Darters that are very much alive, clinging to the logs to warm up in the sun. The one in the foreeground is a female and the male can be seen in the background. In total I must have seen something in the region of 30 Common Darters today, equal proportions of males and females, these may well be the last time I see Dragonflies this year. It is known that this species are extremely hardy and they can withstand a few frosts, death calls them when there is no more food to eat.

I hope you like this.

Paul, I've always said you have a great eye for the right angle and you've proven it here once again! Great shot showing this common Darter in a very un-common way. It looks as if it's hugging this log, embracing its warmth. Again, excellent perspective, Well done!!

tres jolie photo !
la perspective creer par la poutre en bois donne vraiment une impression de profondeur a ta photo.
bon travail.

very beautiful catch of sight of the dragonfly, great contrast and the color, very good shot

No more dragonfly here, Paul. All dead. Waiting for spring in 5 or 6 months...
Nice composition and great DOF.
I like particulary the POV on this one... great perspective.
Thanks... and be aware of november spleen!

nice shot, good angle and good dof.composition and colours are good to, so are the details ,well done!

Nice POV, Paul. The pose is exceptional. They look quite dead when hugging the trunk like this. Without the note I would have wondered. The OOF male adds dimension to it. Superb shot!

Excelente imagen con gran agudeza y mostrando en el fondo otro ejemplar en la misma posicion calentando motores para despegar.
Bonita composicion... si seņor.

Excellent image with great sharpness and showing to bottom another exemplar in the same position warming up motor to take off.
Pretty composition... yes Sir.

Amazing the way it clings to the wood, Paul. Probably to get every bit of heat that radiates from it. Unusual shot. Good work.

All the Yorkshire ones have frozen solid, not seen any at all :-(
A nice shot.
Excellent composition and very good DoF.
Great stuff,well done.

LOL, I went out on Saturday in the hope I'd be the last UK poster with some dragonflies - you've beaten me already, good job! I went over to Thursley, I only saw some S.striolatum myself (6 or so, some in mating pairs) - although I saw one S.danae on Wednesday. Apparently the UK record is an Aeshna that was seen in mid December!

Anyway, you've captured this pair very nicely - I particularly like the way the second one echoes the first. DOF is good, and although I'd have liked to see both in focus I know you were at the limit, so I won't quibble. Lovely shot :-D

Great shot, great perspective, great work.

Very good Paul.
You still have dragonflies in UK ,
here they are gone since september.
Good perspective, colours and details.
Good note.

You can take similar shots at the beach of girls soaking up the sun, but probably get into trouble for doing so! Thats when the 500mm is handy. Very well captured and the textures really caught my eye.

Thanks for posting

Nice one Paul, good clear shot. shows the difference of just over 100 miles north makes in species availability, the last of our dragons was seen when I posted the Migrant hawker it was back 10th October., since then virtually always wet and cloudy so not weather conducive to flying let alone hunting.

Paul, at first, I really had the feeling the insect was dead. How good it wasn't.

Great dof and composition. Well captured and spotted.
