[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The family is certainly Lycosidae (wolf spiders) I'm pretty sure of the Genus although with some spiders it is very difficult to identify the species without killing them and looking under a microscope, something which I haven't done and don't want to do. I found this on in a marshy area which matches with the Genus. It may be P. piscatorius or piraticus...Although neither really matches what I have seen in my books.

Genus Pirata

The margins of the carapace often has a U-shaped mark running from behind the eyes and the margins of the carapace may be fringed with white hairs. Most species have the abdomen marked with small, paired white patches. These are tufts of hairs and often appear slightly bluish. All but one species inhabit marshy-wet areas and as well as hunting on mosses are adept at running across water and catching insects on or just below the water surface.

I hope you like the picture, I found this one basking on some wood in our lovely spring sunshine. I have posted a side-view in a WS.

Back to bugs eh Paul, good crisp image, good DOF and excellent note.
Think I prefer ducks but it's a good job we are not all the same.
Thanks for sharing.

Excellent macro, very good details and very good picture, I think that there is a shade of your lens.

Hi Paul!
Great shot! Congratulations!

Hi Paul, nice low perspective and well detailed, DoF is a little shallow but does not detract from the overall image, sorry I can't help with ID spiders are not my subject.

Excelent capture, Spiderman.
Well done on this composition. Great details and a beauty.

Mike

Excellent capture on this spider. Great detail and color, and I really like the wood backround. Nice Work!

Spider season has open up, thats nice Paul.
Very good POV, details and colours.
I did my first macro today so the spring has arrived.
Very well done, my friend.

Great shot Paul. I like your POV and great DOF at F/18..Sounds like a fighter jet ;-) Yes - spring has arrived and I've been trying my luck also lately..waiting for the flowers to pop-up for some color. Anyway, great job on this.

Is it big or small? I ask for it because I am amazed that it is not completely clear at f/18.0.
It is a great macro, Paul. I appreciate the side-view too.
Thanks.

Hello Paul, this is a very nice picture. Spiders are fantastic creatures and very useful. The world would be infested by flies and mosquitos without them. The details are very good, I can even see the little hairs on it's legs. I think your DOF is a little too short though as the both the legs in the back and the legs in the front are OOF. Good POV and great colors! TFS!

Yeah, spider time! I like its pose with wide spreaded legs and many eyes well seen. I bet he is very fast and ard to capture. Nice WS also!

Great shot Pau, not a nit. Maybe a wee-bit closer could have been better.
Well done.
TFS.

Good shot Paul,
well detailed for such a small spider. Interesting post.
Thanks for sharing

Your technique is very good here Paul! Details on face and DOF are perfect...TFS

HI Paul, yet again you get these really good subjects in. Well time has come now. Just waiting for the snow to melt over here in Sweden, yes its cold ! but not too bad. There is a forest here Tyresta national park and there will be some great moments for some "hopefully" good photography to keep me busy here.

Back to your picture, I admire your time in taking these shots and the patience you must have. You are located in a nice area, because I never see subjects like these. Well maybe I need to open my eyes a little more.

Great stuff, well done.

Superb composition, sharp and clear.
Not so close, we can however see all suitable details (like its eyes and chelicera).
Good colours and DOF.
Never seen such a Pirata species, but I have some Pardosa to post, a next time.
Always glad when you post, thanks.

Hi Paul, very good work. I think it is a rather small spider. Just noticing such a small one on old wood is a success. Very good Dof and details.
Well done.

Very stuning shot Paul,
It is a fantastic capture with a great pof and a fantastic dof. very good details, very fine photo, good job.

What a cool looking spider and you've captured it very well. Great composition, POV and DOF. Love the vertical hairs on its legs.

Advise

Hi Paul, to be honest for the macro and pictures in general you a really a master.

Master please tell me few things.

For your macros, are you using one tripod ?
You never use the flash for macros ?
Why are you using apertures like F16 F18 and not F32 (Dust problems ?) Apparently F16 is enough your pictures are so sharp. So beautiful.

Last question witch macro factor are you using 1:1 or more to have more flexibility in focus. About Focus. Manual or auto focus.

Thanks for your advise.

Pedro Correia
