Female Common Darter. Some key identifictation features here are the the black line on top of the frons does not decsend down the sides as it does for all of the otherwise similar Darters. The yellow stripes on the legs can clearly be seen here. Looking below her head some details in the mouthparts are visible, the Dragonfly's belong to the family Odonanta which means toothed jaw, and boy can you hear them crunch prey up, very funny listening to them munch if you ccan get close enough. Can you spot the thoracic spiricle? It's directly above the hind leg joint.

This idividual is basking in the sun, the weather on this day was overcast so when the sun did come out this girl made the most of it, by spreading out on the customary log.

I don't know how close you can get in to your subject but this is a very detailed macro, perfect color balanced. Next ? A close-up of his mouth, by the dentist ?

Toujours plus près, c'est vraiment impressionnant la qualité des détails qui en ressort !
Great, well done Paul !

Paul, Missed this one earlier I guess. Your camera is like a portal into this "alien" world. This one makes you feel like you could almost sit down & have a conversation with E.T.!!

One of the clearest darter shots I've seen so far, Nice one paul
I think it must of been cool at the time with her squatted down like this on the surface trying to extract warmth from the surface too.

Excellent image, Paul!!! I will definately have to go out and practice doing a bit of macro work. All these macro shots of yours are making me jealous!!

The closer people take pictures, the scarier the insects look. It is a beautiful picture, I see the tiniest hairs, wonderful detail. I wonder how much they can think, do they look at you with interest too!
