[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I'm over the moon at this one. I would like you to feel privileged to view this - not for my photography but because this is a rarity compared to some of our dragonflies. It's only around for two months or so, mid-May to mid-July. I found a dead one yesterday (a female) and I found another dead one today (squashed on a bench :-() I was glad to see them but I wanted to see a live one. I spent the whole morning looking to no avail. I found some damselfly nymphs emerging and I was watching them when Mr Downy Emerald (Cordulia aenea) landed a half a metre away. It was tough getting a picture as he was waterside. Off came the shoes, socks and up went the trouser legs. I jumped into the lake and took some shots. After I had finished I persuaded him to get on my finger where he sat while I got a good look at him. The wings fluttered and he was away. I am so happy at seeing this.

The Downy Emerald is maily concentrated to the South of the Thames and there are only scattered populations throughout the UK. These Dragons love decidous woodland and lots of bankside trees.

The Downy has Bright green eyes when mature and the immatures have brown eyes, this one is an immature male, hence the title. They are around 40 mm in length and have a wingspan of around 70 mm.

I hope you like this, it made my day!

Great picture, great story and great day Paul! Congratulations for capturing such beauty! I hope water wasn't too cold [today in Poland about 25 degrees or more]. Perfect POV and DOF, most of all I like metal-like shinning colours. Superb, big TFS!

As for the blue collage - yes, I agree fully with you about the rectangular compo, but I was in a hurry and just wanted to get the "colour" thing off my back. Next time, I will put in more effort to do a proper collage.

I am over the moon at this too and its not even mine. :) The metallic look is so stunning. Fabulous capture of this rarity Paul. So glad you shared it with us.

This is a serious amazing shot Paul. Some outstanding photography I am looking at here. The iridescent/metallic colours are fantastic. So clear and sharp. Magnificent. Thanks
