Nice shot Paul,
Good sharp detail and good POV. Nicely exposed and good colours. Well composed. I feel the image would be a touch better had the back legs been in focus. I like the WS post too.
Well captured, thanks for posting

Again very interesting capture with excellent detail, light and good composition Paul. I may have lowered and shifted the POV just a little so as to show more of the BG with its contrasting colour. WS is more impressive visually but here we get a good view of the profile. 6/10 Well done.

Amazing Paul, I think her eyes are rubies (from the ws).
Not my favorite subject, however, well taken and shown.
Interesting details, POV, and I hope I never get to see one in person....
Thank you for sharing it with us.

Hi Paul,
A very nice macro on this beetle. Your subject is almost totally in the good DOF range. Color and detail are very good. An interesting beetle that I have never seen before.
I also like the workshop!

Hey, these are quite the creatures. Wild looking, I almost captured one with the S5000, a black one. It didn't turn out so good. Wicked though.
Beautiful capture and well situated in the pic. Excellent composition and details. The antenae probably touched the lens, they are so long. Nice one.

A nice capture Paul.
I've not seen this Longhorn before.
Nice and sharp detail, excellent POV and great lighting.
DOF is is a tad shallow even at F/18.0,that is something I'm really trying to get to grips with on my new lens.
A great shot,well done.

I like brown mood of your picture Paul. Beetle is sharp and very nice - especially gold spots and black eye. I bet it was rather fast and hard to capture. Maybe not as showy as dragonflies but rare [on TN] and interesting.

There's quite few photos of bettles here these days, so I'm glad to see this.
I like the colours and light very much, details are very good and the composition, as always, perfect.
The WS photo and note are very interesting as well.
Overall, great post.

*POV:5
*DOF:4, The oof feeler (what's the right word??) disturbs me. The feet are on the brink of being oof, but maybe it was not your intention to get the whole beetle in focus?
*Composition:5, Great. I like the diagonal position of the beetle.
*Details:4, There are quite a lot of details visible. The details on the head, eye and body are really amazing.
*Exposure:5, Excellent.
*Colors:5, Very nice and saturated. The orange spots are so lovely!
*Note:4, always good enough from your hand and very informative.
Scale 1-5, 5 is the best.
Hello Paul,
This is a great picture and I wish I would be able to shoot macros like this. I especially like the composition and the colors. The oof feeler (I have no idea what the English word for "voelspriet" is) disturbs me quite a lot and it is the reason why I give you only 1 point. I have never seen this beetle before and I appreciate you posting a picture of it. TFS!
I hope you don't mind my new way of writing critiques. If you do, just tell me.
Regards,
Pieter

Paul, on the ws, this "monster" seems even more terrifying.
Eyes and head in perfect in focus. The bug has some little spots on its eyes. Great.
I also enjoy pov and composition.

Hi Paul, this one is a beauty. I don't know why but I hardly ever see any beetles. This one has lovely markings which you've captured very well. It is beautifully sharp and nicely composed. You know your stuff, great job :)

Very nice Longhorn you captured here Paul. Great dof, very good colours, plenty of details and excellent composition/cropping. I too find these beetles very fascinating with their colours and long horns and you are right, they are very cooperative models because they are not so shy.
