...the frozen moment when everyone sees what's on the end of every fork. And it isn't too pretty

A now familiar Robber-fly with it's prey, the unfortunate victim was a species of crane-fly. I shot this late evening and the lighting was pretty nice. There were plenty of these Robber-flies to be found and I sat down a while and watched them hunt. They are impressive, they sit and wait and dart out very quickly only to return with prey quivering and writhing but to no avail. The Robber inserts it's horny mouthparts and begins the digestion. It's a scary world out there if your small enough.

I hope you like it.

très belle macro Paul, les différentes teintes de verts trouvé sur le morceuax de bois sont impecable. Les details de l'insecte sont parfait ainsi que la netteté.

This is very nice work Paul. I cannot fault your macro work easily and think you handle that lens very well. Magical light and the blue yonder compliments the BG. If I have to nit pick I have would say the bottom right dropping out of the DOF is the only thing I can think of. But it's really just looking for something to complain about. :)

Great shot Paul.
Good detail and great POV. Nicely exposed. Well composed. good framing, good colours & Well captured, thanks for posting.
Great title.....weird film!

An interesting pov. The details are great, love the bark of the tree/branch as well as the bg.
Excellent detail as always, thanks for posting.

Warm light made this picture, Paul. I like composition, slightly diagonal with good looking details on wood and blue BG. And of course a robber-fly. Now one of my favourite insects for sure. Very sharp and detailed with good POV. Great scene [but not for poor crane fly].

Paul, another winner, another fantastic capture.

What is amazing is not only the technical quality, but also the moment you captured.

Excellent lighting, sharpness, pov and composition.

Hello Paul,
You got a soft and warm light here as you said. Very good exposure control and DoF. My only nit is a wee-bit over sharpened, or may be I am eating too much carrot.:)

Excellent! Like the texture of wood and body of the fly that compliment each other. Beautiful colours, and all the rest is really good too, as folks have previously mentioned.
TFS,
Gabi
