This beetle (Galeruca tanaceti ) does not have a common name, she belongs to the Leaf Beetle family (Chrysomelidae). Beetles are the largest insect order and in this family alone there are 35,000 species with more than 600 species in Europe and 250 of them in Britain. Members of this family are almost all leaf feeders and are commonly called leaf beetles. Most are quite small and some are brightly coloured and often metallic. Many leaf beetles can do serious crop damage and it therefore come as no surprise that the Colorado beetle belongs to this family.

The specimen here is a gravid female, and you can see how bloated the eggs have made her abdomen in a WS image. This species is found in dry, grassy places, usually on tansy, knapweed and similar plants on which the larval stages feed.

I think she takes a nice photo, I hope you like it.

Textures on this beetle and leaf are really extraordinary. Warm leaf's colour and black beetle do nice contrast. Composition very good, too.
Hey Paul, your WS title isn't taken from The Fastest Show from BBC?

Paul, Cute title! The man does have a sense of humor! ;-) Superb detail - great exposure on this little black beetle. Black on yellow works nicely here. Well done Paul!

Immagine molto suggestiva, ottima la definizione, interessante la foglia cosė gialla che contrasta col nero dell'insetto!

Seems from her belated state that she was not leafed alone. :) Nice one she does make a fine photo. Well done Paul. Your backgrounds always work so nicely... not fair... not fair at all.. :-)

Interesting insect Paul you seem to have alot of knowledge on insects in general. Good exposure on this shot. The leaf makes an excellent contrast for this beetle I think.

This is perfect in every way. I just love the exposure here...it's masterful. And the detail on the beetle, Paul...wow. It looks like I can reach out and feel the smooth bumps.

Beautiful shot of a beautiful beetle. You write very good notes too.Looks like she,s having a drink.Do you often find big stag beetles? I'd love to see one of those again.

Stop joking! People around the small town where I stay will think that nothing was spelt wrong :)

The image is very sharp and I like the autumn colors settling in in your part of the world.

Thanks for posting this beauty
